MERGED - How is Gostkowski still on this team?

Someone may want to check my math but in the playoffs I have Gost at 89% and Vinny at 81%(72% with the Pats). Vinny gets put on a pedestal(rightfully so) because of the 2001 season especially but Gost has been overall much better statistically speaking. He hasn't had those huge clutch opportunities like Vinny had so it's hard to judge him in that way, but that 47 yarder in KC late in the 3rd quarter with swirling winds was clutch IMO.

Vinny also has more misses and 1 more attempt than Gost in the SB.

I don't really know what my point is other than I don't remember people wanting to run Vinny out of town(except when it looked like he was losing leg strength) even though he wasn't as good. I really don't understand some of the hate around Gost.

People get frustrated when he misses, but fail to realize that all kickers do. Ghost less than most.

I actually know the kid who’s about to graduate from ND, Justin Yoon. Kid went to Milton Academy and was hitting 55 yarders in high school.
He had an outstanding career in South Bend and is just a good kid.

We are in need of someone that allows us to chant "uuuuuuuuu". It's been a while.

"Barely Made"

It's make or miss, and he knew he made it immediately. Your strawman "if he had missed" dream sequence is just goofy.

"Let's punish and rip a guy twice for missing a kick that he didn't miss."

This is you. This is what you sound like. :coffee:

Yah strawman doesnt really apply here. It is make or miss.. and had he missed he would be gone. My point being - based on his performance in high pressure situations he is on thin ice.

If he had a good track record of making clutch kicks, his job would be safe in either case. I truly believe he was one miss away from losing his job.

He didn't miss, your hypothetical is a strawman.

His job is more than safe. He'll tell Belichick when he wants to retire. He's the best kicker in the history of the franchise by any metric, and it's not close.

One miss away ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

Vinatieri seems to be the gold standard for Ghost comparisons but Vinatieri wasn't as good as people think he was for the Pats. From PFR

Compare his numbers to Gostkowski's

Would you mind reposting this every day forever, please? Thanks. :coffee: Although does that take into account Vinatieri's 'kickoff specialists'? TIA. :coffee:

I've asked this before. How many times can anyone remember him costing the patriots a game?

I still remember he went 1 for 3 in the Carolina superbowl. I think Ghost like other players that are so consistent when they do miss or make a bad play, it gets blown up more than it should.

Like missing at the end and us losing or missing during the game and losing by the amount that his kick would have mattered?

Other than Arizona at home here a couple years back (And I can blame that loss on a bullshit OPI), I can't really think of any. Maybe the 2015 AFCCG missed XP? But even then, I can't say he cost them the game. Brady was knocked down like 22 times or something stupid like that.

Its really hard to ever blame a loss on one play. I mean it can seem like that, but there is too many other times in a game that could have made it null and void. Yeah I know 2015 extra point looked bad at the end but their D line ate us.

"Many" more?
Bullshit.

Prove this.

I'll have to go back and look, but, it's not BS.

I'm not saying that he was the main reason why they lost. I'm saying that he helped contribute to the loss.

I usually believe there is a lot of things that the entire team could do to win more. I know its highlighted more, but its hard to pin that.

This is what I was trying to say...I agree.

He didn't miss, your hypothetical is a strawman.

It's not a strawman because I'm not presenting an argument against any particular point or person here. In fact I never made the argument that he should be off the team.

What I did say was the big kicks that he has missed is enough to make you consider someone else. Then I stated it's my opinion Gostkowski would have lost his job had he missed the 41 yd fg, based on his track record of missing big kicks. You are trying to take my opinion he would be gone if he missed his last kick and apply it to an argument that I never made.
