Bill Belichick: I have tremendous respect for Fred Taylor, both as a person and as a player whose production is outstanding.

Tremendous pickup, especially if he gets his 6 full games in.

I think he still has some gas in the tank for sure in some way or another, either full time or part time

With Fragile Freddy Taylor, it's a lock that it will be "part time"

Well if he is going to replace Jordan that is about equal to what we got from him?

Eeehhh...with us getting STUCK (because no one will trade with us) with Cassell eating up all our cap space, losing Paxson and Vrabel for a 8th round draft pick...the season is toast anyways???

If signing Taylor fits BB's plan enough to make him "happy" I could care less if he plays 1 game or 16 in a backup roll at this point.

I am waiting to see if the league will allow Brady's prosthetic leg or consider it an "unfair advantage"..THAT is what worries me....

Freddy has been pretty solid, health-wise, starting in 2002.

Me too. It's outrageous that this is still in the rule book. Times have changed.

If Freddy is fragile, what does that make Maroney? What's brittle and rhymes with Maroney?

Glass?

Let me be clear. I love the signing and was hoping for it the second he got released. Any production we get from him will be awesome; and unlike Sammy Morris, he won't get our QB killed.

I have always thought Fred Taylor was a good back. He can make a big play out of nothing. He finds holes well and has decent outside speed. I like the signing.

Washed up running back. Past his prime.

I seem to remember other washed up players signed by the pats who turned out fairly well for being has-beens. :thwak:

If they can get 10-12 games out of him with 700-900 yds and 6-8 TD's, paired with Morris, Faulk and once in a while Maroney, NE's running game should be in good shape.

Im happy with this signing,my first thought was so whos gone?

We now have Maroney, BenJGE, Jordan & Morris too aswell as Taylor ofc

So whos the Starter and who is gonna loose out?

For me anyway, Maroney has to go, even more so now, i just hope Law Firm dont get cut or dropped to PS, he deserves his spot imo

Maroney isn't going anywhere, at least not this year. Hell, look how long Action Jackson and Bethel Johnson stuck around. It would be pretty surprising if Maroney got cut (even by BB 'shock moves' standards).

Details on Taylor's contract:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3939283
Taylor agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract that pays him $3 million in 2009 and $2 million next season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patscap is reporting a $1.5MM signing bonus as well.

Folks, that's not backup money on this team. That's starter money.

That's a total of $10.7MM tied up against the cap in Faulk, Maroney, Taylor, and Morris. As much as people here like to think it's Maroney's on the bubble....I hate to say it, but I think it's Faulk because of hit $4MM cap number. :sulk:

Maybe there's a contract restructure already being worked upon there? (fingers crossed)

I have a sick feeling Faulk is gone, too. I don't like that $4M cap hit.
