Pats-Texans Offical Game Day Thread

Hurley is terrific. Loved this and I agree with him 100%.

–The definition of “incontrovertible” has apparently changed. In the past, the call on the field was upheld if replay review could not conclusively prove that the call was wrong. And in both Danny Amendola’s non-catch and James White’s non-catch, I’ve yet to see an angle that proved conclusively that the ball hit the turf or the heel hit the chalk. I know the Amendola pass bounced, but I thought it hit his hand. And White’s toes clearly tapped in bounds, and there was no clear angle of when exactly he gained or didn’t gain possession, so there was no evidence to overturn the play. Alas, across the league in just about every game, we really never know how the officials are going to rule on replay. For that matter, even a former ref like Mike Carey and former head of officiating Mike Pereira usually don’t know, either. That’s kind of problematic, but I’m sure the ever-esteemable Dean Blandino will handle the situation promptly and correctly.

The DA play was a catch, and if you call White's a catch, I agree there was 0 there to overturn.

Not a fan of the dancing after making routine plays. A pick six for a TD, have at it, by all means, enjoy yourself. Watch every kick off, some special teams idiot is skipping around like a fool because he made a tackle. All it does is scream "look at me look at me, I actually did something, I need to be noticed because I'm a nobody." Totally takes away from the team accomplishment and looks foolish, I cringe every time.

EVERY touchdown is caused by people doing their jobs, touchdown runs are caused by great blocking up front, touchdown receptions are caused by great blocking for the QB, who does a great job spotting you are open for the TD. Pick sixes happen a lot of the times because you get great blocking escorting you to the end zone. These idiots act like they did it by themselves. It's just embarrassing, and to be quite honest, it's so cliché that it's becoming like a joke. That moron James White looked like a fool after a measly TWO YARD TD run. Sheesh. Show some class, act like you've actually scored a TD or made a play before.

They actually outlawed ripping your helmet off after TDs because that idiot Emmit Smith used to do it after EVERY TD he scored, what a moron. That idiot Cordarrelle Patterson 2 weeks ago, did a ridiculous TD dance after a kick off return for a TD, guess what, his team was down 35-0 and that TD made it 35-7, totally classless, ridiculous move on his part. I remember when Gronk scored against KC last year, his score made it 41-14 in KC's favor, he didn't do his usual spike, he was pissed off and realized his TD didn't mean shit. Patterson should have been pissed to be down 35-0, not celebrating his TD (which was caused by great blocking by his TEAMMATES). :donkeys:

Yet these morons act like they did everything themselves. It's really selfish and embarrassing.:donkeys:

So how do you feel about individual celebration in the NFL? :arrr:

Has any other team organized a group photo during a game?

Not that I've ever seen.

I have to admit that Cam Newton has become a much better QB than I thought he was capable of, but there isn't enough mustard in the world to cover that hot dog. And that team takes it's cues from him.

He's the cockiest SOB you will ever find at that position. Numerous examples could be cited, but he was miked up recently and was woofing at a DE who had just hit him on a pass rush. Newton was going "Is THAT all you got?" to the guy.

If you're his teammate you love that, but he's begging defenses to hit him harder and I'm pretty sure somebody is going to accommodate him one of these days.

That group shot was a dumbass idea and I could almost guarantee it was Newton's.

I am going to love it when he gets his mouth shut.

Eh. I don't know that he's reached Aaron Rodgers' level just yet.

Personally, I love it. I love that they're having fun, I love that they get excited over big plays. I love the Superman thing, I think it's hysterical.

Don't like it? Stop them. :coffee:

I don't know why people get so exorcised over this stuff.

Prior to Tom Brady and Coach Bill, all Patriots fans would have loved it but since they decided to be introduced as a "team" at the Super Bowl and have remained tight lipped since we expect all teams to do the same.

I personally do not like the dancing by players down 21 points after a tackle, I can accept a player celebrating a touchdown while kicking ass while being undefeated.

I also think one of these days his head will lose the swivel and he will open himself up for a hit from an angry man who he just talked smack to. Looking at the schedule the Falcons have a game against them soon and that group that was "disrespected" by the photo may take a little liberty after the whistle.

Yeah, there is that little issue and so far nobody has.

However, it's a fact that "disrespect" is a real big deal to a lot of people playing in that league and oftimes they have to invent something to get pissed off.

Cam Newton hands it to them on a silver platter. I found their little class picture to be tasteless while they were still in the process of destroying a really bad team. Yes, they are having fun in Carolina after a lot of lean years. Call it crotchety if you like, but I'll have fun watching when those showboats get their asses kicked in the playoffs, which is my mortal lock of the century.

So, yes, I'm old and crotchety and while I don't want the league to turn into a bunch of robots going through the motions--their particular level of cocky is over the line I have drawn in my head.

Imitation of successful teams is common and I shudder to think what would happen if they won it all and everybody got their swagger on. We'd have a league full of preening jackasses calling attention to themselves constantly.

What is perceived as "expressing joy" to one person is "wanking yourself in public" to another. :coffee:

I think he and AR are both douches, though at least AR stopped that idiotic belt thing for the most part.

Cam has done that idiotic superman thing when his team was down by over 2 scores.

Every team has cocky guys but I just hate when they make it about themselves. WOOHOO I SCORED... but we are losing? ...that has 0 to do with "don't like it? stop them" in my mind.

Totally classless. During the two minute warning. The chuckle heads announcing the game gave the team props for doing it.

Lebron era Heat did the same kind of things.

Cam Newton has always had a me-first attitude.

LeBron era Heat won championships.

And Cam seems like he's all about Cam. That's why he annoys me.

He's definitely a top tier QB right now though.

So he's the black Larry Bird when it comes to trash-talking. Bird could back it up, and it seems like Cam is on his way to doing the same. We shall see.

Personally, I'd like to see Cam and the Panthers reach the Super Bowl undefeated. Then TFB et al can hand them a nice big shitburger to eat ...

I agree with the bolded part. Making a special teams tackle 20 yards downfield, down by 30, looks ridiculous.

And they get called out as such.

Your post is exactly my point. Don't like getting shown up during a game? Do something about it. :coffee:

Cool, then he'll get his for being a cocky sumbitch. But if you don't want him to do Superman, don't let him score touchdowns. It's really that easy.

Simplistic sounding, but if teams are just going to roll over and take it - then they deserve what they get. That's how I feel about it.

If the league turns into "preening jackasses", then there will be a lot of dopey players out there, and they will get made fun of by announcers and fans.

The Patriots celebrate plenty. It might not look as contrived, but when they score, they've all got their thing. You might think a spike (Gronk) or a throw-the-ball-at-the crowd (Edelman), or freak-out-screaming-lets-go-spike (Brady) is somehow less douchey than Superman or Discount Doublecheck.

Not really sure why though, it's the same thing with different execution.

But if you don't want him to do it, don't let him score TDs. Simple.
