I truly hate the thought the game I love most is rigged.

However...

Those making these rules that require judgements of intent or action by the refs know every bit as much as we do that those rules are prime targets for manipulation.

A rule, whether in the field of play as in law must be black and white with clearly defined characteristics. It must be objective and not open to personal interpretation.

Recipe for disaster judgement calls in rules are.

Also hearing the NFL will allow teams to promote a practice squad QB to the active roster for gamedays as an emergency third QB an unlimited amount of times during a season.

The one drawback with this is that teams will now have to announce when they plan to onside kick as they'll have to line up further upfield for that. I know the success rate of the OSK has plummeted since they changed the KO rules, anyway.

I suppose I will take the chance of seeing an occasional kickoff returned for a TD over that.

I heard a ST coach who is on a committee formed to look at sparking some interest in
what was a yawn-inducing play freely admit they studied what the XFL and other levels
and leagues had done.

Anything is better than watching great athletes standing around doing nothing.

I'm curious as to how this goes, but my first thought was that this presents a chance for some
creative thinking on both sides. If teams start breaking some big returns I would think it might
put a premium on long-range kickers if not keeping a KO specialist.

It's got the potential to be interesting.

Heard speculation that,,
..some team may want 6 tight ends for their special teams. Or whatever wild idea the ST coaches comes up with.
..running backs are now in higher demand.

Did anyone ever hear of the hip-drop tackle before 2-3 years ago? I hadn't. It's a newer thing but it was catching on. Grabbing hips, using them like a trapeze to swing your weight
into the ballcarrier's lower legs.

The NFL released figures - it was used 230 times last season and was responsible for 15 players getting injured for multiple games. 25X the NFL avg injury rate. Unanimously Banned.

Only 230 times last season. I doubt banning it is going to ruin the game. :coffee:

This is a dangerous tackling technique. The NFL can't allow it to continue without liability concerns since it has been singled out for being 25Xs more dangerous than an avg tackle.
Think about the lawsuits. Now the NFL can say it's been outlawed...can't sue us.

Instead of swinging your weight into the player's legs, why not grab and drag your legs. Or hit him in the torso/shoulder and run through him. He grabbed his hips, he can grab somewhere
else. Too much is being made of banning this


They'll have to find another way.
 
here's my beef. some of this stuff just takes away from the already tiny amount of time coaching staffs have to teach actual football.
