That's a very good analogy. We Chiefs fans never expected to win the SB this year so all this is just gravy right now. Our defense will improve as well as Mahomes. We now expect the kind of domination the Patriots have experienced beginning, well , now.

It probably won't, but like the 06 Indy team they got hot in the playoffs. Plus they got a few guys back from injury.
A fee stops can make a difference. However, the offense still needs to show up like it did in the regular season.
But agree odds are that the defense will not change

Yes the chiefs are built similar to Peyton's colts, although that colts team had a few good defenses in his day

It was more like the colts got healthy in the playoffs. That made the bigger difference, the offense actually went to crap in the playoffs except the colts run game. Peyton had 3 td's and 7 ints. Not sure that will do it for the chiefs.

Yes a point not made too often but Manning was not very good in the playoffs and his defense really helped out a lot in the '06 run.
Yes Sanders came back late in the year to help in the playoffs, but overall the D took off. I still view that run as a kind of a blind squirrel will eventually find a nut. And it was helped a little by Health Evans 12th man in the huddle among other things in the AFCCG.
It was a hard fought battle for the AFC

Good to see that some of you are not expecting much from the team as a bad bounce or two can foil a single game in the single elimination dance of the NFL playoffs.
Hopefully, the D will get better and you guys can continue to be on the top in the AFCW.
Looks like you got a winner in Mahomes, which is the biggest challenge for a football team. You still need to surround him with talent to help out, you have some of it now due to first contracts of many players.
Time will tell if you can keep it going to be on top year to year. Hopefully, for your fan base you will be able to keep it going.

Mahomes has had a great year. Be fun to see how KC pans out in the years to come. Hopefully for its fan base they will be on top for a while.
At the same time though, given salary cap and the NFL's wishes to have new blood each year, the Chiefs may fall in the same path as the Seahawks, Colts, etc., being great for a few years then falling back to the pack.

Mahomes is the season-long version of Matt Flynn's LOLWTF game. Impressive for sure, but indicative of nothing until that standard is consistent over the majority of a career and championship(s) is/are won.

The hardest thing for any player is to be consistent for years. A ton have come out and set the world on fire only to fade away with injuries or inconsistent play, losing players around them, etc.
