The NFL is Racist as ****

Unfortunately, the world will be watching to see if the refs are going to allow the same thing on white QBs. Hopefully other whities than JG get knocked the fvck out.

Cam Newton's dad echoes what Tommy is saying.

"I'm beginning to question the consistency of how games are being called -- and who they would call this particular play against versus this particular player," Newton's father said. "Was Cam treated differently from other quarterbacks? In this case, yes he was -- clearly. Anybody who has followed the game for any length of time and has a working knowledge of how the game is to be played would agree with that statement.

"People throw all these jingles out there about he's mobile, he's bigger, he's more physical. There's a lot of this and that. At the end of the day, Cam deserves to be protected just like Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins, Andy Dalton, and the list goes on and on. I know a good hit when I see a good hit. I was a defensive player, and I played the game at the highest level as well. But when you deliberately target and when you're constantly being hit after the ball is out, I question the intent of the defensive player, and I question the official who, basically, if he does not warn them, lets the flow of the game continue."

"I don't speak in the voice of Cam Newton," Cecil Newton said. "I speak in the voice of Cecil Newton. I'm the father. I speak from what I saw. I'm disappointed in the officiating crew, as a fan of the NFL. ... These guys have to do a better, unbiased job. I don't want it to necessarily be because he's a black quarterback. But it causes you to wonder -- are you really biased or have some hidden reason [for treating him differently]? Because if everybody else can see the targeting -- I can't tell you how many calls I've gotten since last night, in the last 12 hours."

Asked again if he feels there's a bias against his son, Newton said he thinks there is "a bias, a hidden bias."

"I'm not just going to always say it's race; I'm not going to keep fanning the flames of race in every situation," he said. "But it causes me to wonder. Help me understand through transparency. Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL, help me understand how this can happen to the reigning MVP. Explain that to me. I'm not going to fan the flames of race in this particular category, but I really sit back and ask myself, 'Would this have happened to some of his other fellow colleagues?' Let the public answer the question for themselves.

"I'm just telling you what I see. I have a gross concern, not just for the safety of my son, but also the safety of other people as quarterbacks who, basically, are launched at and there are no calls. Don't tell me you're not old enough to get that call. Don't tell me this is a five-time Pro Bowler who did what he did and you're just going to kind of let it go this time around. Don't tell me that. Cam has a large following on both sides of the aisle. Cam interacts with people in the community throughout. It's not like he's been pandering to a certain side of the aisle. I'm just telling you that what I saw last night was reprehensible by NFL standards, and there needs to be some calling out of sorts, to the officiating crew as well as to those players who would be seen on record as taking cheap shots."

First game not here yet. Worst thread of the season.

As it turns out, the thread title was brilliant click bait.

The NFL is not racist (for those who may have thought my responses meant I thought so).

But, there is a legitimate topic concerning how the refs treat Newton. IMHO, it's not Newton specifically, but the style of QB. His style is more conducive to a running back and I think the refs give some leeway to the defense given his ability and propensity for tucking the ball and running.

With that said, they really screwed up Thursday night. There was some clear head hunting going on. I have no doubt that the number of roughing the passer calls will increase on Sunday.

Cam is a running QB, but that has been cut down a lot. He only appears to run now when there's nobody open, not by a designed play. And he's a big guy.

That being said, that game made me sick. I'm a Newton fan, have been since he was at Auburn. Three of those hits were directly in front of an official. Unintentional helmet to helmet hits happen and get called, but those appeared pretty blatant to me, especially the launch.

"Our highest priority is the safety of players" - Roger Goodell. Except Cam Newton. Cam Newton can get FUBAR, apparently.

I think there's some truth to what Tommy is suggesting. It's really the only way to explain some of what took place, especially the fact that despite what the league has said about his being examined there was basically zero concussion protocol implemented, especially on the last hit in the video.

I'm not, but it's a question being asked. In case you didn't know, refs make mistakes. It's OK to point that out.
it sure is ok to point out when a ref mistakes a QB for a RB

i disagree. The thread is valid in that players like Newton, and Big Ben, take hits that players like Manning never did without getting a flag.

Cam had many designed runs in the game including one inside the five when he ran for a TD.

If you believe anything Roger Goodell says about player safety then I am not sure what to tell you.

The refs missed calls which happens IN Denver all the time. No QB is coming out of the game in the final drive - not Brady, not Rodgers, not Cam. Again, the NFL and its teams concern about player safety is a farce. To say this is racist in league predominantly comprised of black players is just ... just ... ludicrous.

Cam Newton's dad echoes what Tommy is saying.

Overall I think he's right on. I also hesitate to jump to immediately to racism, but it's certain looks sketchy as hell.

Personally I think greed would trump any amount of racism the NFL might have which makes incompetence a far more likely motivator than actual hate. It's hard for me to buy into the NFL giving an FU to one of its most popular (and profitable) players just because he's black.

On the flip side, the king of the organization is an asshole so who knows?

Do you? You'd be hard pressed to convince me the NFL cares about players safety further than doing just enough to avoid getting sued.

Ummm, that was my point. He is a lying sack of crap. He cares about $$$ not players. Never had, never will.

The game was in Denver, it would not matter who was at QB.

Games in Denver seem to have this ref controversy.

So wait, the NFL - a league where the majority of players are black is racist, but only toward Cam Newton?

Maybe the officials simply don't like Cam Newton the person/player who happens to be black?

You can actually not like a black person without actually being a racist.

I can't stand him. That said, he was beat up Thursday and the non-calls were alarming. What if Brady's career is ended the 5th week due to a shot like those and the players and fans start talking about, well Cam survived it....

I'm not racist and I don't like cam newton:shrug_n:

There are a TON of us that don't like him. The hits were gross.

You drinking?

Sent from my Enigma Device

HAHAHAHA!

He may not be drinking, but I sure am

Honesty!

Hardly.

This is just blowback from Kap getting all uppity.

"Kap getting uppity" infers he is in control of what he is doing. He is merely a pawn.
