Training Camp and Preseason Games 2019

Seemingly cleaned up at halftime. Very much improved.

Plenty of talking points for Belichick.
Meyers, Winovich, Stidham continue to impress.

Damn this team is stacked.

I thought Harris and Williams also looked like they belong out there. And the punter too!

Very promising start for most of this years draft class.

here's what NFL.COM has on their "What we learned.... " story for sat. pre season games

(and check out the link to read the praise for Jacoby Brisket... er, Brissett)

4. It wasn't a crisp performance from the Patriots who played Saturday, but several youngsters stood out. On defense, rookie Byron Cowart got off to a raging start, bulldozing veteran guard Roger Saffold for a monstrous sack of Mariota on the game's first series. Later, third-rounder Chase Winovich played with his hair on fire, destroying Tennessee's backup tackle with a bevy of rush moves. A man with an endless motor, Winovich picked up five tackles, a sack, two QB hits, two tackle for loss, forced a hold, and added a bevy of other pressures. In the secondary, second-rounder JoeJuan Williams was stellar in coverage early.

On offense, left tackle Isaiah Wynn, who missed all of last season, played three series and looked solid. The LT anchored well in pass pro. He can improve in run blocking, but for his first appearance, it was positive. Receiver Jacobi Meyers continued to eat up corners off the line of scrimmage (6/82). Rookie running back Damien Harris got the bulk of the workload in the backfield and responded well in both the run and pass game, earning 14 rushes for 80 yards and four catches for 28 yards. Harris displayed great vision on a 20-yard scamper, toughness to power through arm tackles, and good route running to find free space. Backup QB Jason Stidham also continued his stalwart preseason, completing 74 percent of his passes for 193 yards and a beautiful arching back-shoulder TD.

Derek Rivers and Shilique Calhoun

New England’s defensive edge suffers a pair of injuries

Derek Rivers and Shilique Calhoun battled for practice reps and ultimately a roster spot on the Patriots’ defensive edge all summer, delivering some impressive practice performances along the way. This week was no different, as both saw regular action with the starting defense during joint practices and looked good no matter the situations they found themselves in. Today’s, however, might be their most difficult to date.

After all, both left the game against Tennessee because of injuries suffered on the very same defensive series. Rivers went down first, after trying disengage from a block through a spin move. He slowed down, went down, and stayed on the ground before later walking off the field under his own power but rather slowly. Rivers then went straight into the medical tent and afterwards left the game for the locker room. He did not return.

Shortly thereafter, Calhoun also went down after getting tangled up with Deatrich Wise Jr. The first-year Patriot also walked off the field under his own power, but with a noticeably bigger limp than Rivers. However, early reports appear to be positive: Calhoun told Nick Underhill of The Athletic that he will be fine and is “still living the dream.” If Calhoun’s confidence is justified, the Patriots may have dodged at least one bullet.

Whether or not the same can also be said about Rivers, who already missed his entire 2017 rookie season because of injury, remains to be seen. A longer-term injury would certainly be another blow to the former third-round draft pick who is in the middle of his best stretch with the team.

Didn’t catch the game but based on highlights it looked like Meyers Harris and Stidham looked great out there. It’s nice to have a bunch of youth injected at the same time for once. Lately it’s only been a couple guys either not busts or starting their careers on IR.

Still pissed at ESPN but still look at Reiss's posts. Good one today, including this tidbit. I like it because I think it will be Brady and Stidham. I thought this before the Lions game and on my fluid 53, I've only had Brady adn Stidham since the start of tc. Now I'm fully convinced.

1. How many QBs on final roster? When Tom Brady was coming off a torn ACL that sidelined him for all but 15 plays of the 2008 season, coach Bill Belichick made what was a surprising decision entering the 2009 season by rostering just two quarterbacks: Brady and then-rookie undrafted free agent Brian Hoyer.

What will he do this season?

On the injury front, looks like Calhoun will be OK, can't find anything about Rivers.

I knew Winovich was going to be a bad ass. Makes me sick he's a Patriot.

Watching the highlights, it appears that Harris was the game MVP. Stidham had some good throws, but at least 3 that were nearly picked. I think he is better than Hoyer was as a rookie when the Pats only kept 2 QBs. The safety was terrible. Ghost looks like he is in championship game form. I hope all injuries are minor.

Hope so. That’s great news.

I think Wino will head for cult player status very quickly with the Patriot fans.

He very well could.

He has a skill set many many fans have been clamoring for here for quite some time. A relentless motor and attitude. If he can grow and do the same damage vs starters as vs bubble roster guys the sky’s the limit.

Wasn’t making the club anyways.

He could see it.

Well I hope he is better than Hoyer was as a rookie...
