We're on to Tampa Bay: Game Thread - Buccaneers @ Patriots - Sun. Oct 3rd 8:20 PM (NBC)

Well if you go by what Toms Dad is saying, he makes it sound like Tom wasn't treated any differently than a rookie or second year player. Maybe Tom needed to feel special, suckle on his teat and tell him he's special. Treat him like a King so he went to Tampa where he's appreciated? I dunno, I just remember Arians calling Brady a cheater. But whatever..lol
“I’ve actually prepared a statement that I wanted to say, and it’s really all that I have to say on the subject. Comments made by Thomas Edward Brady, a 77-year-old insurance company CEO who should know better at this point in his life, doesn’t necessarily reflect the views or positions held by his son, Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr., so furthermore should Tom Sr. continue to speak out on behalf of his son without the express written consent, Tom Jr. reserves the right to eventually put him in a home against his will. That’s all I have to say.”

This was from Tom Jr to Tom Sr..lol

No bulletin board material Mr. Brady, you know better..lol

also, i saw guys on sunday multiple times standing around looking for who to block. "not what we're looking for"

This is the kind of thing that needs to be in the Brady thread, IMO.
Why? There's nothing pertinent to this Patriots team or the game.
I just thought it was funny. Trying to keep things light. Not everything in this thread has been game specific. Still, I will try to be more mindful of sensitivities.

Richard Sherman is visiting the Bucs today. Many assume he will sign as the Bucs restructured one of their Olinemen to free up $4 mil in cap space.

I think if we follow Dallas' offensive game play of quick throws to the perimeter we can really move the ball on this defense. I actually like that Harry will be back as he is the perfect type of receiver for this and also provides a red zone threat. We can't run on them so that is out the window but attacking the perimeter where they are hobbled in the secondary is our best bet. Stay away from the teeth of that Dline. I have no earthly idea how we stop their O. Brady threw for over 400 on the Rams. That being said, Bill has been known to come up with a scheme or two in his lifetime. LOL I think he will have something cooked up to get pressure in the middle. I fully expect Phillips to be the Mike LB for this game. We also need Judon to have the game of his life. It's not impossible no matter how bad the match up looks on paper.
Yep.

They'll need to play well on D with a turnover or 2 and the STs needs to morph back into 2019 or 2020 STs to keep it close. Yards thrown for is bordering on irrelevant in this league. Every team moves between the 20s. It's what you do when down there is what matters. Pats simply cannot turn it over.

Ivan Fears said that James Whites injury is not necessarily season ending and he thinks he will play again before season end.
Wow. That stuns me. For him to come back and be able to cut on it is hard to imagine, but good news nonetheless.

In general, outside of David Andrews, who has been steady to excellent, the entire OL has struggled. While I can agree that RT has been the worst area, there has been pressure
coming from all over. In addition, we're having trouble running traps inside because Onwenu does not have Thuney's mobility. There was a running play Sunday that might have
gone if Big Mike was a hair quicker cutting off the penetrating defender, but it went for a TFL. I doubt we'll scrap the move to LG and move him back to RT, but unless the group improves across the board over the next few weeks I expect we'll see some churn to try to find a formula that works better than what we've seen thus far which is not good enough. Not even close, actually.

The play of the OL is the most disappointing part of the team to me thus far, but it's early. Neither tackle position has been a strength through the first 3 games. Isiah Wynn has not played
very well at all, imo, although I don't know what his PFF grades say. Maybe it's a coordination thing with Onwenu and will improve, but I'm not seeing the same big hand punch and power
out of him that he's showed.

Watching live, I thought we ran a number of deeper, combo routes that had no chance because Mac was forced off those routes under duress.

I'm not sure why, but it seemed that we showed significantly less pre-snap motion than we typically use.

This. This. This.

The offensive line is the end-all-be-all IMO, and is the quickest fix to getting this team winning again. This team is 2-1, potentially 3-0 if the OL played the way we expected them to (despite their other issues beyond the OL).

The OL has not only been a disappointment relative to expectations, they've been objectively bad.

I thought Thuney was replaceable and that Big Mike would thrive at LG; so far that hasn't been the case. I wonder if they think about moving Onwenu back to RT, Brown kicks to LT when healthy, and Wynn tries his hand at LG. Every bone in my body tells me that Wynn belongs at T and Onwenu at G, but the results aren't there right now.

Also, they're down Popovich from last season. There's no way to know (without being inside that building) if his absence is part of the reason for the OL's struggles, but it's a possibility. I halfway wonder if Scar potentially rejoins the team in some capacity (for just this season) in order to make up for the loss of Popovich. Just speculating, no idea if that's even in play.

Reasons for concern about the OL:
  • They've played poorly this regular season
  • They're down a coach from last season
  • Thuney isn't there anymore

Reason to be optimistic about the OL:
  • This is the biggest and most reassuring point: The same players, in the same positions, played significantly better during the preseason. Significantly. They looked how they were supposed to; pass-protection was airtight, stunts/blitzes were properly picked-up and the blocks were executed; they were moving guys upfront in the run game, effectively running traps/pitches and looked comfortable moving in space. Night-and-day.
  • Brown has effectively missed the entire regular season and will soon be healthy
  • The Patriots, especially, almost always get better as the season progresses
