I’m so sorry. May your memories of this wonderful man ease your pain. Rest in peace, Patrick.

Hi all, My name is Sean I am the oldest son of the man you knew as Patriots-Lifer.
He left us 4 days ago. Per his wishes there was no funeral he was cremated and is now with his beloved wife their ashes will be set on the wind from the plane he liked to fly for many years.
His name was Patrick Driscoll. He loved the Patriots and went to his first game at Fenway Park. He often talked of some of you almost always kindly.
Over his last week I would come on the site and read some of the things you had left for him it made him smile
He left a letter that I will post here. I will leave this open if it is alright so I can tell the rest of the family about you.

For my friends at Patriots Planet.

If you are reading this then my time here has come to an end.

Grieve not for me as I have lived a rich and full life. My wife and I had 41 wonderful years together before she passed a few years ago. I was lucky to find someone who shared in my dreams. We have raised 5 children 3 boys and 2 girls now all grown with families of their own and spread out over the globe. I lived to see 9 grandchildren who I hope will remember me. I left each of the family’s video letters that include many of my stories of events and adventures I had. I have set foot on every continent I helped build medical facilities and shelters all over the world sometimes under fire and sometimes after disasters.

My oldest who will be posting this for you all Is a kind man who when I wanted to offer people a chance to send memorials, he suggested World Central Kitchen. I agree they are a worthy cause. I started visiting the planet I think in 2004 and became a member in 2007 I have loved so many of the discussions out side of politics. UT and RG I owe you much for keeping this place running and reasonable. Muse you are a treasure. Pig well you are the pig and I love you all for being who you are. I can not name you all for it would take far too many pages. But know each of you have had an impact on my life and I am thankful for it. Please remember to show some kindness to others. You don’t have to agree with them but try to be kind. Farewell my friends I hope to see you all again someday.

Sean,
My deepest condolences to you and your family on your loss.
I am glad that our words brought him a smile or two.
His ability to leave such a gift for his children and grandchildren in the form of video letters is priceless and wonderful. When you lose someone you love,it's extra comforting to be able to see and hear them in a video. It helps bring memories to life. he sounds like a wise and wonderful man and i am glad he lives on in you and your family.
what a beautiful thing to for he and his wife to be able to fly together again from the plane he liked to fly. my message to him when he gave us the news included the wish that i hoped he had been able to live the life he dreamed of,as his tag line here said. it certainly sounds like he did. i am glad for that.
may you find peace and comfort in your memories of him.

Hello Sean,

I am so sorry to read this, and sincere condolences to you and your family and all his friends which I am sure there were many.

Thank you for sharing this sad news. The Planet will be a sad place today.

It sounds like your dad had a bit of Irish in him, so the old country over here welcomes back one of her sons. If I may, can I share an old Irish blessing for the departed?

“Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away to the next room.

I am I and you are you.

Whatever we were to each other, That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.

Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.

Put no difference into your tone.

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed

at the little jokes, we enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.

Let it be spoken without effect.

Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.

It is the same that it ever was.

There is absolute unbroken continuity.

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.

For an interval.

Somewhere. Very near.

Just around the corner.

All is well.

Sean,

Thank you for sharing this with us. Your father was just so fun to be around, and great to have conversations with. I will treasure the ones we had privately off the forum. He was funny, smart, kind and generous to us here on the Planet. The first thing I thought of when your father told us what was going on was peace by what he posted. And that is a treasure for us to hold on to.

I will miss him dearly but knowing he will be flying with his love is a proper way to say good bye.

I know you don't know us really but if you need anything let us know.

Take care and prayers to your entire family.

After pl's recent last post I changed my signature. I am older an man with a passionate love for literature and Classic English Poetry. I often rotate my signature usually using poetry I love.

My recent change, dedicated to your dad was to Lord Tennyson's Crossing the Bar, a beautiful poem about death without remorse and life well lived.

Always been much loved verse of mine and his final post as he approached the bar, instantly brought Tennyson to mind. I will leave this as my signature at least for the coming year.

My sincere condolences for your loss.

Sean,

Thank you for sharing this news with all of us. I am so saddened for your loss but I am grateful to have been able to brush alongside your dad for almost two decades, being able to yap about a sports team we all love so much.

I am mostly here to make fart jokes but of course, as you interact with others, you begin to make favorites over time and Patrick was on my short list. I was praying for a miracle but upon reading this post, it seems he had a hand in no less than 5 of them. Keeping you all in my close thoughts. I hope peace and comfort find you all soon.

Condolences,

-Steve

Sean, My deepest condolences on the loss of your dad. He was a valued member here for many years and he will be missed.

My son-in-law is a Cork native, from Carrigrohane. He spends half the year in Missoula, MT and the other half in his hometown. The wife and I are hoping to make our first visit soon where we will be immersed into real Irish culture.

Its a sad day, but your father lived a consequential life, always remember that if the sadness becomes too heavy.

Is there a better compliment that can be given to Mr. Driscol at this time? Maybe, but not to me.

Sean - You are the son of a good man. I am happy you had him for so long.
