Misuse and Regression of Mac Jones and How to Fix

Evan Lazar is probably the best media reporter football analyst right now out there concerning the Patriots.

“Seven of Mac's nine turnover-worthy plays this season have come when he holds the ball for 2.5 seconds or more. Jones also has the tenth-highest turnover-worthy play rate when he holds the ball, waiting for deeper routes to develop downfield (6.4% - out of 34 quarterbacks).”

Delete the crappy vertical throws that make Mac hold it longer, he’s not good at it. Make Mac get it out quick, everything in under 2.5 seconds. Basically play Brady dink and dunk all day. Abandon going for inefficient chunk plays

I see this as a line problem and a receiver problem more than a Mac problem. You can't simply abandon down field attempts and think that's going to solve the offensive problems. Sure fewer picks are good, but more punts aren't going increase the win total either. It's been said to death but we don't have a single receiver that defenses are concerned about or have to give special attention to. Is anyone paying attention to what Tua is doing in Miami? There's nothing in Tua has in terms of skills that is better than Mac. Until Bill realizes and is willing to put some real weapons on the field, it's not going to matter if it's Mac or Zappe behind center. If there's one blind spot Bill has, it's the simple fact that if you don't have a generational QB, you need to have better than average weapons.

I dont agree and think the logic is weird? If your line is bad, stop going for long developing deep plays!! It’s like knowing you suck at 3’s yet keep shooting 3’s and losing.

And we do not need more receivers. They already wasted not fixing LB/DLine by adding Thornton and Parker who isn’t good. And still have the most expensive WR/TE corps in the league.

Stop copying the Chiefs. That’s not what the Pats are. Power run 30+ times a game and get the ball out under 2 seconds on quick passes or play action.

Leading the league in 20+ deep yardage passes and playing 0.300 ball is idiocy

This also makes no sense.

Going for inefficient deep calls INCREASES 3-and-outs, while dink and dunk generates a lot of first downs and time of possession. Also helps out your defense to rest. Zero good reason to be ideologically obsessed with the deep ball.

It’s extremely clear Mac wins and the Pats win when we win the turnover battle. And almost all of Mac’s picks were on these dumb deep plays. Delete all the deep throws. NextGen stats all clearly show Mac is a worse player when he throws it past 15 yards.

The Pats win when they don’t beat themselves on offense. Just move the chains, dink and dunk, take care of the ball. I would cut Parker asap just to stop this dumb offensive staff from repeatedly trying these 50/50 twenty yard toss up pass plays.

You make it sound like the Pats are just forcing Mac to attempt deep balls, this is ridiculous, he has the ability to check down to shorter options on every play. You also make it sound like teams won't adjust defensively if they know you can only play the short game. The bottom line is you aren't getting to yhe playoffs and winning many games if your offense is limited to screens and 5 yard slants. Again, the perfect example of this is what Miami is doing with Tua, he doesn't look like the limited QB everyone was saying he was does he.

1. Mac was and is getting very different playcalls than Zappe. this is undisputed. Hence this thread to talk about it and make it clear. Mac was obediently running sh-ttier plays because they’re trying to play the way you want which is losing football. Pats led the league in Sept in 20+ passing yards and it sucked, went 1-3 and Mac was a pick machine. The Pats lose trying to hold the ball longer and throw it deep.

2. Flat out wrong that you can’t win playing ball control football. Every Pats win this year was ball control style. The Pats went to the playoffs last year because of dink and dunk, Mac passing at a high completion rate during a 6game winning streak. Mac started sucking Dec’21 with the sh-tty vertical passing game, his INTs go back to Dec’21.

3. More weird logic from you. Tua is playing awesome because Mike McDaniels is a great offensive mind. Conversely, Mac is getting league worst coaching from Joe Judge, Evan Rothstein, and Matt Patricia. See: Daniel Jones and league worst offenses on the Giants and Lions under these clowns.

4. The Pats don’t need to chase yet another receiver. this is idiotic. They’re already wasting $50M in contracts at WR/TE. Go fix the OLine and double down on power run football plus play action and dink and dunk

I had forgotten that entire threads can be put on ignore.

Yippee!🤡

You could be the strangest poster here. You argue points that aren't in question, and others that we're never even stated. It's like you're replying to a completely different post. Lol

Nah you’re making weak points. That Mac can always just check down, nope his check downs are different and worse on these crappy vertical plays. He went elite against the blitz to now terrible against the blitz. How? you don’t know. Read the articles in the thread. He’s good in a short passing game and terrible in this long vertical scheme they keep stubbornly trying.

And then you claim the Pats can’t win if they play dink and dunk. 100% wrong, they win when they do this and lose when they force it deep. Finally point to Tua to dig a deeper hole about going deep. That isn’t this team. Going deep doesnt work on this team. Mac is a short passing field general who wins when he doesn’t turn the ball over

Almost robotic in its response. :coffee:

Is Tua amazing...or are his WR's amazing? :coffee:

His WRs are awesome but so is his HC at offense. But it’s still faulty logic to then say the Pats have to copy the Chiefs or Dolphins and chuck it deep. The Patriots Oline can’t block for 3 seconds, the QB is way worse on all throws past 15 yards, the WRs don’t fight for deep balls, the most expensive tight ends in the league are being totally wasted, and also the RBs are elite and should be fed the ball constantly

Gotta fly Qantas....yeah, definitely Qantas...

Excellent game.
Dumbasses may not like it but it works. Dink and dunk with Mac Jones. No turnovers. Ball control. It works and the Patriots WIN.
Keep it up. Throw away the crappy vertical chunk plays

.

This article talks about how the running game is back in the NFL. Points may be down but yards per run as good as ever since so many teams dont have great defensive tackles anymore
