Official Boston Celtics/NBA Thread:

I have become more of a casual NBA fan as of late.

Does anyone know what percent of second round picks (or lower) actually contribute?

Not sure that's a good hire. NBA is a diffrent game.

JB is a great basketball mind, but his drilling of fundamentals may not fly with NBA guys. He'll have to change that.

I blame him being in Cleveland on the NCAA. Beilein was fed up with the NCAA doing nothing about all the teams that cheat. He recruited with one, maybe both, hands tied behind his back. The frustration finally boiled over and he went to the NBA.

NO gets the number one pick in the draft lottery. Wow. Williamson anyone?

Other teams that were in position get the top pick were talking to NO about trading for AD. Where's he gonna go.

Great position of strength for the new GM.

In the world of the NBA, this is a whole bunch of hot garbage.

They likely won’t get any frontline players, but at 14 you should be able to score a good shooting F or G. In the 20s I think the team needs good bigs. Rim defender shot blockers. Someone when this team gets up 10-15 they can get into halfcourt and kick it inside for dunks. Too many big leads whittled away by continuing to clank missed 3s. 51? Just take a flyer on an offensive Europe-weenie and hope he blooms.

It would turn an NFL team around instantly, but yes, this is basically sh*t in the NBA.

Giannis was a #15 pick. I know he's the exception, I mean the dude did grow about 2-3 inches after he was drafted, but it leaves at least some hope.

Report: Danny Ainge wants Kyrie Irving to stay, believes acquiring Anthony Davis would make it happen

The NBA draft lottery is over and the Celtics came away feeling pretty good.

With New Orleans getting the No. 1 pick, they don't have to worry about the Knicks or Lakers getting that selection and then trading it for Anthony Davis. Why does this matter? Because the Celtics potentially could be interested in acquiring Davis, which could lead to Kyrie Irving staying in Boston.

According to Frank Isola of The Athletic, Danny Ainge wants to keep Irving and he believes if the Celtics can land Davis that would allow it to happen.

Irving has a player option for next season so there's a chance he could become a free agent.

The Celtics certainly have the pieces to land Davis in a trade if that is indeed the route the organization wants to go.

It should be an interesting next few weeks to say the least.

looked it up and after much confusion the Celtics And Sacramento picks is not number 2 protected but number one protected

"Here is what they possess going in:

• Their own first-round pick, 22 overall.

This is based on their 49-33 record. The Celts actually were tied with Oklahoma City, but the Thunder won the tiebreaker that was conducted by the league last month just after the end of the regular season. So OKC will pick at 21.

• Their own second-round pick, 51 overall.

• The No. 20 pick in the first round.

This pick originally belonged to the Clippers, who sent it to Memphis in February 2016 with Lance Stephenson so Doc Rivers could be reunited with Jeff Green. (This is one of the reasons Doc no longer runs the Clips’ basketball ops.)

The Celtics got hold of the pick on draft night 2016 when they traded first- and second-round picks to the Grizzlies for the right to the choice, which was lottery protected. So when the Clippers made the playoffs, the C’s got the pick.

Those picks the Celts gave the Grizzlies? They were Nos. 31 and 35 overall, which became, respectively, Deyonta Davis, who has played 107 NBA games in three years, and Rade Zagorac, who signed with the Grizz a year later in July and was waived four months after that.

• Sacramento’s first-round pick (most likely).

The Celtics will get the better of the Kings and 76ers picks, which would make it seem fairly obvious it’ll be the Sacramento choice, seeing how Philadelphia made the playoffs and the Kings did not. But the pick is protected for the top slot, and if the Sacramentites buck the longest odds (they are tied with Charlotte and Miami with a 1 percent chance) and get Zion Williamson … I mean, the No. 1 position, they still won’t be lucky. The Sixers will get the pick. This was originally part of the July 2015 deal between Philly and the Kings in which the latter sent Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry and Jason Thompson for second-round picks Arturas Gudaitis and Luka Mitrovic, with the 76ers also getting the right to swap positions in 2017.

They did so, moving up from 5 to 3 and promptly dealing No. 3 to the Celtics for their rights to No. 1. The Sixers took Markelle Fultz, the Kings took De’Aaron Fox, and the Celts took Jayson Tatum. They also, for trading places with Philly, got this pick.

As it stands, the C’s have a 1.1 percent chance of getting No. 2 this year, 1.2 percent of getting No. 3 and 1.4 percent of landing No. 4. There is a 95.2 percent shot the pick will stay at 14.

• Memphis’ first-round pick.

The Celtics will get this one if it is not in the top eight, and if it is and the Grizzlies get to keep it, it’ll only be protected through the top six next year. And if it’s not conveyed by then, the Celts will get Memphis’ pick unprotected in 2021.

This one came to Boston via a three-year deal in January 2015. New Orleans was also involved (remember, the Celts had Austin Rivers for a minute before sending him to his father/the Clippers), but the initial part had the C’s dealing Jeff Green to the Grizzlies for Tayshaun Prince and this pick.

A month later, Prince was part of another three-team trade, this one with Phoenix and Detroit that netted the Celts Isaiah Thomas, Jonas Jerebko and Gigi Datome.

As for Tuesday, Memphis has a 26.2 percent chance of landing in the top four, with a 31.2 percent chance of getting No. 8, all of which would allow them to keep it. The odds of it getting to the Celtics are 34.1 percent for No. 9, 8.0 percent for 10, 0.5 percent for 11 and a statistically even more minute shot for 12.

Could you repeat that again? :coffee:

Your program just upgraded with the hiring of Juwan Howard. He will take UM basketball to the next level.

Who cares about the draft. When guys come out at 19 it’s three years before they get close to developing. I mean you don’t get your man body till 22 at least. Yeah there are exceptions, but nba is not the nfl. F***** developing a guy for years to watch him leave after one half a good season. Danny Ainge is an idiot if he wants Kryie back. Yes. An idiot. Best case is he goes to NYC, either team will do. Kryie will never beat a Celtic team. Ever. Book it, or whatever.
Anyone want to cast bets on whether Tatum stays when his rookie deal is out?

If he can't be moved for the Brow I'm happy to let him walk.

Looks like Raptors put a can of whoopass on the Warriors last night IN GOLDEN STATE ! Warriors are really hurting without Durant. This could be a very interesting series especially if Raptors wins next game!!!

Game was in Toronto.

House of Drake.

Didn’t you see enough of him?

I expect Warriors will win, but good if Raptors can make it a series.
if Raptors won I'd be cool with that. only team I want winning every year is mine! :)
(all of them)
but be honest, while it sucked to lose an SB, it makes the next win sweeter. I'd rather not lose one to test that theory, but going back the next year after losing and winning is just another feather in Pats cap.

So Anthony Davis now a laker and Kyrie opted out.
will be interesting to see how things shake out, especially with KD and Klay Thompson both injured
