To get to 53 players, the Patriots waived defensive tackle Josh Augusta, defensive end Mikey Bart, linebacker Trevor Bares, receiver Austin Carr, tight end Sam Cotton, running back LeShun Daniels, guard Jamil Douglas, linebacker Brooks Ellis, center James Ferentz, running back D.J. Foster, defensive end Geneo Grissom, running back Glenn Gronkowski, defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton, receiver Cody Hollister, defensive back David Jones, guard Ted Karras, defensive tackle Darius Kilgo, running back D.J. Killings, guard Jason King, defensive back William Likely, receiver Devin Lucien, receiver K.J. Maye, tackle Conor McDermott, defensive back Kenny Moore, tight end James O’Shaughnessy, tackle Max Rich, defensive back Jason Thompson, defensive back Damarius Travis, linebacker Nick Usher, and receiver Tony Washington.

The Patriots also released running back Brandon Bolden and linebacker Jonathan Freeny.

Defensive end Keionta Davis and tackle Andrew Jelks was placed on the non-football injury list, and tackle Antonio Garcia was placed on the non-football illness list. Receiver Julian Edelman, defensive back Cyrus Jones, and defensive end Derek Rivers were placed on injured reserve.

Bummer. I was hoping they found room for both Carr and Lucien, and they kept neither.

I would love to see both on the PS as well as O'Shawn, Baby Gronk, and Foster.

Who is our third TE?

Aside from Gronk, these are all good candidates but they won't keep them all on the PS because it is too many skill positions. There needs to be some defenders, some lineman and a QB.

I didn't see anything on the CB the Pats acquired from the Lions. Here is a small write-up on him. Has decent size at 6 feet and also was a solid SPs player.

CB Johnson Bademosi
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have acquired CB Johnson Bademosi from Detroit in exchange for an undisclosed future draft selection.

Bademosi (pronounced BAH-day-mo-see), 27, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns on May 9, 2012. The 6-foot, 206-pounder led the Browns in special teams tackles in each of his four seasons in Cleveland before signing with Detroit as an unrestricted on March 11, 2016. He has appeared in 78 NFL games with three starts and totaled 31 tackles, one interception, eight passes defensed and one fumble recovery on defense and 65 tackles on special teams.

Looking at the depth chart on patriots.com what concerns me is that are no back ups at center or guard. Karrass got cut. I can't see them going into the season that way so look for another signing coming up. I was surprised that they kept Cole Croston, he was on my cut list from the 2nd preseason game on.

They still show Jules on the roster and he was hurt before Cyrus.

He went ST heavy in trades. Did king move to LB. They have him listed there . I thought he was a safety .

Saw Croston play LT,LG and RG, am assuming they had him play center at some point.

Don't really know but wouldn't think they be at 53 without a backup for center.

No interior OL backups yet.

Edelman is still on the roster until he goes on IR officially. That will free a spot for a player.

Cole Croston over Ted Karras at a position of need is a bit of a surprise.
Any thoughts, Hawg?

Keeping Jordan Richards is beyond me. Give me Carr or Karras.

Anyone know anything about Cassius March's ability?

"Good moment but like a castle in the sand. Could be gone quickly." -- Bill Belichick on players getting comfortable after making roster.

This will change quickly in the next week-10 days.

Mike Reiss on Cassius March - back up Edge and STs punt team specialist.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Marsh entered the NFL as a 2014 fourth-round draft choice out of UCLA with the Seahawks. After appearing in just five games as a rookie, he played in every game over the last two years, with one start on defense. He recorded three sacks in 2016.
Marsh made significant contributions on special teams, as he was one of the Seahawks’ better players on fourth down.
This year, he projected as a backup defensive end in both base and nickel on Seattle’s deep line, but also is considered to have some positional versatility. The Seahawks had experimented with Marsh as an outside linebacker in their 4-3 scheme in the past. Marsh also has rushed from an interior position in sub packages at times.
In early August, Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril had noted Marsh’s improvement.
“Cassius is taking major strides,” he said at the time. “He’s playing great ball all around from playing the run, playing the pass. I actually worked with him a lot this offseason in Hawaii and at the Von Miller summit, and it’s cool to see him taking what he’s picked up in those camps and coming here and putting on a show. I think he’s going to have a heck of a year.”
Similarly, in early August, Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett saw Marsh rising.
“This is a guy who has worked with me all this summer and to see his progression as a player, his conditioning, his work ethic and his mindset for the game this year, I think Cassius is going to be a guy who is very exciting and it is going to be a really great year,” Bennett said.
With the Patriots playing sub defense more than 80 percent of the time, and with a need to bolster the front seven when factoring in the mix between edge players and off-the-line linebackers, Marsh was a player the Patriots obviously were targeting because they parted with two draft picks to acquire him, albeit later-rounders.
He enters the last year of his contract in 2017.

Exactly what I was expecting.

A team with a deep front 7 knowingly having difficulty rostering a player they liked but didn't have the room for.

Loved hearing his prominent teammates pumping him up after all the off season time and commitment he put in.

He didn't play any of those positions very well from what I saw. But Dante know a lot more than me.

When did Lucien get hurt? From Patriots.com:

In addition, the NFL’s transaction wire service confirmed that four Patriots who were cut on Saturday – wide receiver Devin Lucien, defensive lineman Woodrow Hamilton, rookie d-lineman Josh Augusta, and rookie cornerback D.J. Killings – cleared waivers and will revert back to the Patriots on New England’s injured reserve list.
Elsewhere, four former Patriots from this summer now have new homes on other teams, according to that same NFL transaction wire. Tight end James O’Shaughnessy was claimed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, rookie wide receiver Austin Carr is now a New Orleans Saint, rookie offensive lineman Conor McDermott (the last of New England’s four 2017 draft choices) was picked up by the Buffalo Bills, and rookie cornerback Kenny Moore plays for the Indianapolis Colt.

Karras and Grissom have both made it through to the PS, as well as rookies David Jones and Damarius Travis (who?).

Austin Carr claimed by the Saints.

So these guys were signed to the 53 of the respective teams, and not their PS?
