Trouble In Packerland - Where It Went Wrong

Troy Aikman, cliche machine, says Mike McCarthy deserved better.
McCarthy was head coach in Green Bay for 13 years. He won one Super Bowl.
How long did he deserve, Troy? Fourteen years? Twenty?

Two losing seasons in 12 years (one of those last year without Rodgers for 9 games);
took the Packers to the playoffs in 9 of the last 11 seasons;
4 NFC Championship Games, 1 Super Bowl title.
Yes Gerry, he deserved better than to be fired mid-season.
Is that cliche enough for ya

ROFL that Callahan is picking a fight with Aikman.
I don't like McCarthy as a HC but I agree with Aikman
that he deserved better than to be fired in mid-season
after 12 years.

Reports saying several Assistant coaches have expressed enthusiasm to join a JMD led Packers.

Not sure how I feel about it, but the guys on Sirius NFL Radio last night were saying it's a blessing for all involved, that once a decision is made you have to cut ties.

It allows McCarthy a better chance to put his name in for some of the openings that are sure to happen around the league, gives him time to think about assembling a staff, etc..., and it spares McCarthy four weeks of being asked about being on the hot seat and whether he feels he'll be working come January.

I think personally, if my employer has decided that I am gone, I would want the quick trigger. Why drag it out if it is a done deal. :shrug:

It's gotta be Joshy putting this stuff out at this point.

Maybe he's angling for another raise?

If you’re good again you’ll understand.

The Clots have never been good enough to warrant that type of consideration. Not even when the Forehead was in his prime. That only comes with multiple championships.

And this is why BB is a boss. He will trade out McD for draft picks, thereby reclaiming the ones the Pats lost to Jersey for him.

Huh?

BB can't stop Josh from taking a Head Coaching job anywhere. As long as it is a step up, the league can't stop him from leaving. BB has no veto power.

As big a total douche and as overrated as I have always thought Rodgers is, he IS a first ballot HOFer. Let me see what McCarthy can do in a situation where he has to build something from scratch. How many "great" coaches have we seen over the years step on their dicks when they have to get out and show they didn't luck in to their success? Marriuchi? Seifert? Martz? Those guys all come immediately to mind for me and there are plenty more.

Likely. But how much is that a product of media inflation and favoritism?

Better? Sure. But A had excellent career stats and numbers and there was major discussion over his eligibility for the Hall.

A also won 3 conferences championships with 2 different teams and also went through a stretch where he resurrected his career. Stuff like that matters. Using the Joe Namath formula A was a lock from the outset, but I remember the debate.

Also, what you see with the media fluffing of Rodgers is very similar to what you see in MLB with Mike Trout. He's a media binky.

Yup.

You can’t explain it. Some get this tsunami collective wave of support and accolades, without really earning it completely.

It seems that sports need a 'face'. Who that 'face' is can be subjective based on a number of different factors, but it's generally a guy who, amongst other accomplishments, has multiple championships under his belt and/or plays for a historic franchise. Additionally, fantasy football is sickeningly huge. Rodgers puts up big fantasy numbers and plays for a historic franchise. Make a lot of highlight reel plays. Therefore, he's the face of the NFL. Before him it was ManniHGH.

Correct.

When all along the face should’ve been Tom over both.

Yes Rodgers is a media darling and falls into that category of a well liked personality and thus has his record overly inflated and/or skewed and not analyzed relative to his peers making it look better.

For example if one wants to look at apples to apples, lets look at the stats of Brees, Brady, both Mannings, Rivers, Big Ben, Newton, Luck, Stafford, etc., in the time period as Rodgers played 2008-present and see where Rodgers fits among his peers in the stats department. I know his is head to head with Brady and like the same with at least Brees and Peyton Manning. So all of this career stats for Rodgers is not really indicative of his position with his peers, but yet he is the "all time greatest" in certain QB stats. But he really is not in the end.
