Week 10, 2020, Pats vs Ravens

Tough one coming up Sunday night. Turnovers could be key.
Ravens are 7 point favorites.

The Ravens are touchdown favorites over the host New England Patriots ahead of their game Sunday night, according to Las Vegas sportsbooks.

After a 24-10 road win Sunday over the Indianapolis Colts, the Ravens (6-2) are favored by seven points over New England (3-5). The Patriots ended a four-game losing streak Monday night with a narrow 30-27 victory over the Joe Flacco-led and still-winless New York Jets.

The Ravens are undefeated in road games this season, while New England has been uneven at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots opened the season with a 21-11 win over the Miami Dolphins before routing the Las Vegas Raiders two weeks later, 36-20, in Foxborough, Massachusetts. But they lost to the visiting Denver Broncos, 18-12, and San Francisco 49ers, 33-6, last month.

Sunday’s game will mark the second matchup between former NFL Most Valuable Players Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson, but their first as starters. In October 2018, Newton (21-for-29 for 219 yards and three total touchdowns) outdueled Flacco (22-for-39 for 192 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions) as the Carolina Panthers rolled to a 36-21 win.

Jackson is 11-3-1 against the spread in road games as a starter, according to CBS Sports. The Ravens have won their past 10 regular-season games when favored by six or more points, while New England is 0-3 this season as an underdog.

The Patriots lead the all-time series 10-4, but the Ravens ended a three-game losing streak last year with a 37-20 home win in prime time over then-undefeated New England. The Ravens have won twice on the road in the series, but never in the regular season.

The over/under for Sunday’s game is 41½ points.

Not sure what our answer is for Lamar. Our defense is so much worse than last year. Does anyone know if Gilmore will play? I do wonder if they pass some if he is out given the success Flacco had. Lamar is pretty good with the deep shots.

The bigger question is how do we score on the number one ranked scoring defense?

Far as stopping Lamar, there are a couple of factors that might help. First, we just released Nick Thurman from the 53 and he played almost every snap last week. He seems like a try-hard kid, but he spent half of last Monday evening on the Meadowlands turf. I'll take my chances with the next guy up. Seriously, Jackson's blocking is not as good, as most will agree, and we can match up with his wideouts pretty well. Note that defenses have been keying on his predictable reliance on TE Mark Andrews with good success. We're also playing a lot of nickel and dime and might be able to cut off his outside lanes occasionally, which Van Noy and Jamie Collins didn't do much of. Jackson has been making more mistakes recently and hasn't continued to improve at the dramatic rate he showed last season. Maybe we can contain him, maybe we can't, but I think it's not as bad as it looks.

On offense, we are going to use the secret weapon trio of Isiah Zuber, Kristian Wilkerson and TE Jordan Thomas to shock that D. And the football world.

Thomas in particular is an interesting guy that can help us.

Watch for trick plays just to screw with Harbaugh.

Plus windy (20 with gusts to 40) and wet, especially after 9PM. Hoping for turnovers from Lamar Jackson.
If the new receivers do anything it would be a blessing. I don't think TE Thomas has practiced with the team yet. This is the year it could happen though.

As you likely know that was wishful thinking on my part, but I have studied up on Thomas and am officially intrigued. At least he has an NFL frame and seems to have soft hands. Not a precision route runner, but he seems to run surprisingly well and has a big catching radius. I'm not sure what kind of blocker he is, but he can't possibly be any worse than Izzo. Very good guy, too. He could conceivably help in the red zone now since I believe Houston ran a Patriot offense and he had some pretty good red zone success down there.

As an aside, I felt a little strange watching the post game celebration last week. I saw names on the back of the jerseys that I'm not used to or didn't know at all. Wilkerson, Hall, Davis and a few more. I'm sure we'll see some more.

FWIW department
Ravens -7 is the lock of the week on several betting sites I frequent.
The only other lock of the week I've seen mentioned is the Saints -9.5 vs the banged up 49ers.

Trick plays would be easier were Jules in play, but then again, Harbaugh of all people would suspect him.

Harris is one of blight spots on offense this year . RBs are reason we won 3 games . Hopefully Meyers & Ford can step up to help out passing game. I giving up on Rookie TEs ever getting involved

And then bitch about it because it wasn't fair play and he doesn't know the rules.

And then get those unfair rules changed in the off-season.

Would love the trick plays. LOL.
