Random Jets Stuff Thread

This needs to be on page 1 this week.

K.

Let's do this:

Sneaky Smart Shit the Jets did this offseason:

1) Fired Rex Ryan and John Izdik (k, that was obvious but) Hired Todd Bowles. He may or may not suck as a coach, but at the very least he's an adult, and his team plays like professionals now, for the most part.

2) Signed Revis (although they probably overpaid)

3) Signed Antonio Cromartie (their best CB this season, and I don't think it's that close)

4) This is where the Buster Skrine part would go if I didn't think Buster Skrine was incredibly overrated, so Signed Ryan Fitzpatrick. Journeyman was better than what they had, and it shows.

5) Signed Brandon Marshall. Now they have more than Eric Decker and a punt returner. Marshall's not the same Marshall of even two or three years ago, but again, a monster upgrade from what they had.

6) Cut that quitter Percy Harvin.

7) Drafted for talent and not need when they took Leonard Williams, who might end up being pretty damned good.

8) Signed Stevan Ridley (this will eventually pay off for them, I'm convinced)

9) Appear to game plan from week to week and not just RAWRGROUNDNPOUNDRAWRSTOPTHERUNBLITZ every week. You know, make teams actually watch your tape.

10) Playing like professionals and, with two exceptions, act like professionals on and off the field. No one's running to a microphone, no one's doing any of that shit. I don't know if it's just because of winning, but after Geno Smith took a right hook to the domepiece, because he was too ****ing cheap to give the practice squad guy the $600 he owed him - something happened. I thought "SOJ", but I think Bowles did something and got the team focused. There's a lot to be said for that.

I see what you mean in #10, but, honestly, I thought it was a no-brainer that punching out Geno and sidelinning him for the 1st 2 months is #1 on the Sneaky Smart list.

I'm curious what criteria you use to describe Skrine as overrated?

I love out of all that, this is what you picked.

My eyes. He's fine. He's just not a game changer, or even really approaching one, while your other 2 QBs are. He's certainly not "BEST FREE AGENT SIGNING OF THE OFFSEASON", he's not that guy. He's good around the line of scrimmage, he's not great when isolated in coverage. He's also "member of the secondary most likely to kill you with a dumb penalty".

That's the criteria. I hear every week about what a Free Agent signing this guy is...he's the 3rd best FA CB signing the Jets had in the offseason. Stop.

He's fine. He doesn't suck, he's fine. He's INSANELY overrated by the national media. Like Sean Smith from Kansas City. In that category. Smith is fine, a good player, he's not "TOP 3 CB" guy.

The reason I put it at all, is that at the time you signed him, he was an upgrade, and with the other signings, he's a good depth guy.

So sensi.

No need to troll the Jets. They do a good enough job of that themselves.

But Rex is gone and BB never wants to give bulletin board material. Someone got a good tongue lashing or a pink slip or both.

That's what scares me. Bowles might actually be competent.

Am I supposed to respond to every single silly thing you put up? I asked a legitimate question, don't get butt hurt over it. Skrine's played in 68 out of 69 games, he has 20 tackles in 5 games, 3 passes defended, blitzes from the corner and hits hard. You can call it whatever makes you happy but I'll take that guy every day.

First ballot Hall of Famer :coffee:

Good article that details how the Jets built their offense the "wrong" way through trades and FA signings but built their defense with 7 consecutive first round picks.

The Jets are 4-1, one of seven teams this year with zero or one loss. New York is one of the surprise teams of the 2015 season, and while the defense deserves much of the credit, the Jets' [offense] rank 7th in points scored and 8th in total yards. But perhaps the most interesting part of the Jets offense is the unique way it was constructed.
The Jets have used seven consecutive first round draft picks on defense, and many of the recent offensive draft picks have failed to succeed. As a result, the Jets have constructed the offense in a manner that runs counter to what’s usually considered the “right” way to build a franchise. Rather than building the foundation of their offense from within, the Jets have pieced together this offense by acquiring other teams’ veterans.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-way-can-it-still-carry-them-to-the-playoffs/

The Jets' D ranks 1st in scoring defense and 1st in total defense.
The Jets' O ranks 7th in scoring and 8th in yards.

The Jets are playing better than the Broncos are thus far. The Jets are also better coached than the Broncos as proven by their higher rankings on both O & D.

This promises to be an old fashioned knock down drag out game, imo. One key thing that gives me comfort is that the Pats played their worst game of the year against the Colts last week. That should wake our guys up & give BB plenty of coaching points.
