Free Midgar

You must be confusing me with somebody else. I have been a Pats fan my entire life and season ticket holder since 1993 when Parcells was hired as HC.

I conversed regularly with midgar on ESPN's message boards and he suggested I join this board.

I enjoy talking about the Pats but find this forum extremely uninviting and this has nothing to do with Midgar's situation.

I think midgar was right on his point about there being a small circle of posters who create 2 sets of rules for those on the inside and those on the outside.

and it's too bad, because I would like to talk Pats here, but the inner circle has too many jerks to tolerate.
FWIW, while I personally don't have any issue with you, your posting style does rub some people the wrong way. You tend to be abrasive, and some people here aren't thick skinned enough to be able to handle it.

As for Midgar, I actually was very disappointed (in myself) that I never was able find a way to get him to realize the effect he was having on people (that he was causing the majority of the stuff that kept upsetting him). I really don't think he's a bad guy, but his posting style just brings out the worst in so many people, that something had to be done. It was nothing personal (at least not from me).

I found Midgar to be difficult from time to time, but I simply stopped posting in the thread and the next day or even the next topic, he was back to being a reasonable guy.

What defines "abraisive"? Here, the definition seems to be an opinion that rubs people the wrong way. I consider myself to be a strong Patriot supporter. I shell out $4500 a year for tickets and travel to one road game, usually Buffalo. I'm a fan as much the next guy, but I find it odd that I can't converse with Patriot fans on this board. I talk Pats, Belichick, Kraft, the business and guys like BostonTim talk about me. Something is wrong with these guys.
If my goal was to come here and please BostonTim, I would just stick my head in the toilet and call it a day.

Bitching is part of the experience. Hell, I bitch about the traffic flow on Route 1 every game... and most seem to agree with me. Always a surprise! but if I were to talk about that here, I would get driven off the board.

This is not how Patriots discussions occur in the real world. Just about anybody I talk to at any one of hundreds of Patriot tailgates is reasonable and we are able to find common ground and discuss topics. Not here.

I'm going to let it go now. Whoever runs this board likes it the way it is, and that is all that matters.

so You left threads, forums for a period of time because of middy?

on espn... I gave up on a few threads, sure. Sometimes midgar would get after me. I was ok with it, but the easiest way out was to just stop posting.

I never thought less of him for it. You can me an "idiot" I can handle it :). I enjoyed the back and forth.
He knew more about the Pats than I did, and I knew it.

We had a relationship, so I cut him some slack. For every weird thread, we had 99 good ones.

Here, most of them are bad, and I don't interact with these guys too often. WTF? Is everybody cranky?

I'm sorry that Midgar was banned even from the AA. I just didn't see where it was a problem down here. If you don't want to deal with him, stay out of here.

Kind of sad.

It's sort of a compromise. I actually preferred the way this board was many years back, when everything went in a single forum, pats talk, jokes, political rants, everything. The problem was that as the board grew, too many people simply couldn't handle it (and it's a shame, IMO).

I've often wondered if the better solution would have been to ban all the people who couldn't disagree without being an a-hole and making personal attacks (whatever the topic was), however the forum would have remained small. But make no mistake, there were some epic blow up back then as well, (that would dwarf anything that's happened here lately). So at least there's been progress on that front.

Sub forums like the political forum were made (because too many people couldn't figure out they were (more or less) the same type of people as the ones they were arguing with, other than who they hated).

We made the Asylum, because too many people couldn't figure out how to talk smack without going over the line. We made the Tailgate forum because people whined too much about the silliness (jokes an stuff) in the main forum and how it corrupted the purity of football talk (or whatever it was), and so on.

It's a compromise that was needed if the forum was going to grow. It's not exactly what any one person would like, but I haven't figured out how to make it any better.

I think most of the MODs here will listen to ideas to improve things (or at least pretend to listen), :D but they do need to be presented in the right way (i.e. pleasantly), and also not require too much work of us. What can I say, basically I'm lazy.

so did I, so did most avioid him when he got caught in a loop but you have to admit you got sucked in at times.
when threads became too repetitive and all other posters left that were annoyed, this place would be empty.

yup I miss what was here in my beginning too but it had to happen with all the high jacking going on because of the bickering. Sucks but it was an angry place. It would have been a mass banning.

I keep hearing about a "circle of posters".... people do tend to gravitate to like minded posters but I see much less of that than in the past. I do think strong minded posters still exist that refuse to listen to others and are often the type to jump on a poster if they disagree, especially a new poster who is learning the feel of the place.

I am now feeling old, I miss the good old days. Do You know what, everyone's shit stinks, no poster is better than the others. The self moderation by the masses in 2005 when I joined is replaced with a gang tackle. People talk down, not too other posters when they are pointing out things. The NOOB thread would have a boat load of people welcoming a new poster, telling them to look around and jump right in. Most posters here did Jump right in, I did. no lurking I stepped into it and instantly Alice and MGOblue and others would point me into correct direction. I remember it because I was made to feel welcome. I found this place to distract myself from watching someone with cancer die. That welcoming was teh greatest feeling. I could escape the real life shit. I tihnk people need to be more welcoming. I always use AWTE as an example of a football brain that can talk to the smartest, most experienced fan and not miss a beat and explain the same play to the most inexperience noob football fan. It is a gift to be able to do that.

today we all want to be the news breaker, and "I posted that in this thread" is often posted. Who cares if the topic demands a singular thread let it have one. we can merge them if they have to be later. We all think we know football but truthfully we know shit. compared to the man we follow blindly (BB) and his choosen Son(TB) and the staff we know NUTHIN. Remember that when the next time you read someone screw up what coverage teh defense played. Mistakes happen. I screwed up this week and I was politely corrected. I knew my mistake once I re-read it but it was a simple "McCourty plays..." post. No BS, now mounting my ass because I messed up.

I hope with this move in this thread we will start to see a civility on the planet again, we will start to see more fun, maintain the information flow but enjoy it.... we only have a few more years of Brady, why waste them jumping up the asses of fellow Patriots fans. Remember it is a tailgate, anything goes at any times but keep it real, no need to polute teh football forum with pictures of Rex eating a tuna sandwich off his wifes feet :puke:. But enjoy this run, they are gearing up for another big push, the haters will return and a united front is what we are going to need.

19-0 baby, 19-0

2008 was an epic year here in the planet. We had a record number of people on at the same time. The threads and humor was unbelievable. I've longed for those days to return, but it won't happen. It is nice to see john lock, Matou, jag, shirt has been visiting. Maybe someday TG, Fullytilted, Fulltilt, RG, Jd, JdsWife, Southcarolina, lvent will come back for a visit and oh yes Ava Monroe.....boing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Box O Rox...

Facebook/twitter took a lot of posters away who look for info only. Minimal input.

You guys named a lot of good posters. We still have some great guys here but adding them to the mix would be cool

2008 was the cassel year, the 11-5 no expectation year where everyone relaxed. The shot end to the prior season was topped on the suck factor by 20 with Pollards hit to Tommy Boy.

I think that was a fun year to be a football fan in New England

Just curious. What happens the Casino Cash that a person has when they get banned?

Does it go to the government? Does it go to the "house"? Does it get banned with the person and becomes like Confederate money?

You weren't invited to the virtual party where the fake money is spent on pretend hookers and make believe booze and drugs?
