Week 5 2022 Lions at Patriots

Yup.

Marcus should get more of a chance too...I know Bryant actually made a decent play today too.
Marcus did look good when he was out there. Hopefully the pictures Bryant has on someone aren't that bad. :coffee:

I have to confess I thought about Jones getting Bledsoed. It was even about this time of year too IIRC?
I don't think that will happen. Mac didn't have Jacolby and the OL looks like it's starting to come together. I think that Mac shouldn't come back until he's completely healed, then let's see what he does.

Well after reading this thread I put face in palm and just shook my head. Some of you are just amazing. There is no QB controversy Mac got inured before the team was able to get this new offence worked out. Really folks the play calling in the first two games was just awful. It was great to see Meyers back in the line up. That man is a great player. Stevenson did a real good job after Harris went down. I still think they are better together and word is the Harris could be back against Cleveland. The play from Zappe was outstanding he didn't try to do to much and the play calling worked within his skill set. The best thing was how the Defense came to life. If the can stay healthy they will be able to keep the pats in contention most of this season.

I am NOT in favor of any QB controversy. Mac is my guy. My comment was about how the Mediots will react and the stupidity that will follow.

I will say this: Hoyer better like Bora Bora. How could he not!!!! Give him a head set.

To my eye, Zappe did a lot of things well that Mac has struggled with to varying extents over his short career. Pocket presence/pocket movement, footwork, seeing/throwing over the middle of the field, quick and decisive decisions with the ball. Everything was in rhythm and on time, seemed to have a better feel for getting the ball to his playmakers in sequence. I thought I watched some high-level QB play today, and certainly the best played game by a Patriots' QB this season.

Zappe also appeared to do everything he needed to at the LOS, got the protections setup, got into/out of plays, read the defense pre-snap. No major OL breakdowns which likely means he was doing a good job of identifying the Mike and any free-rushers, and getting the protection properly set. I'm not sure there's any drop-off between him and Mac regarding pre-snap aptitude. The fact that Zappe was accurate with the ball and his passes were live, was the icing on the cake. To me, his pocket presence and decision making alone was enough to make me really encouraged, nevermind how well he threw the ball.

That's not say Mac can't be a good QB for this team, but I will openly admit that Zappe demonstrated traits today that make me more optimistic about him being the starting QB moving forward. If I end up being wrong, so be it, but that's my sense.

Reading BB's postgame presser and various bits of media, there is good reason to feel encouraged IMO.

Bailey made a lot of good decisions. Was accurate with the ball. Thought he showed some poise there in some pressure situations where he got out of it and found an open receiver, made good decisions.”

He does a good job of seeing the game and can come off and identify and articulate what he saw, what happened — and that’s usually right. What he saw is usually what I saw or, maybe, when you look at the film, maybe there’s something that’s a little gray in there, his explanation is actually good. It was the way he saw it. Maybe he might not have done the right thing, but he saw the game".

Zappe did really well and has put himself on the NFL landscape, but Mac is going to get himself sorted out when he's healed up. It's his team. Period. It was a day where almost everything we did worked, so let's hope the Pro Shop doesn't print a Zappe jersey for mass consumption just yet.

I will say that Bill may have inadvertently thrown a little fuel on the "Macbench" fire when he said this, among other things, about Zappe:

He does a good job of seeing the game and can come off and identify and articulate what he saw, what happened — and that’s usually right,” Belichick said. “What he saw is usually what I saw or, maybe, when you look at the film, maybe there’s something that’s a little gray in there, his explanation is actually good. It was a bit reminiscent of the way he spoke about Brady early in his career.

Felger will take note and milk that, I'm sure. All the sharpies in the media will use it for what will probably be a modest campaign to create a DQBC (dreaded qb controversy) in Foxboro in hopes of conning the stupid in order to generate heat and hits, but there really isn't anything there for it to really take off. The fan base as a whole isn't nearly angry enough.

Phenomenal game by Zappe. Very intelligent player, as a reminder he had the highest Wonderlic of any QB in his draft

I don't believe there will be a QB controversy either, in all seriousness, but it will likely be talked about in the media. But, I listened carefully to the post-game show on Patriots.com, and none of the guys there, Deuce, Paul Perillo, Fred etc mentioned a QB controversy coming, they were very objective in analysing the team the Patriots played yesterday..... I do still think Mac is number one. Zappe played a Lions team that lost 4 DBs during the game! they were already the worst defense in the league as well so that has to be taken into account.

But I am really pleased with how Zappe has taken this chance and stepped up. It's his passing that's impressed most along with this feel in the pocket. So many times you thought for a split second he was going to get pressured, but a subtle step up or to the side and he evaded it. This must be thrilling to Bill as he genuinely now has 2 very good QBs on this team. The notes on Zappe's work ethic are very encouraging. Somebody in that building did one hell of a job in scouting this guy, I'm delighted he's on our team.

Let's also not forget that although they may have HAD the highest scoring offense in the league they also have the worst defense. Pretty sure Zappe benefitted from that as well.

Consistently good pocket awareness and movement; everything was always on time and in rhythm. This was some really good quarterback play yesterday by Zappe, I don't care who the opponent was.

I love the no-panic the first clip, just a calm movement out of the pocket and a simple throw to an open receiver.
