Harrison37 Iraq deployment support thread

Just a note to tell you all I got home last night and am enjoying my first day back in the States.

Thanks to all who were so gracious and went above and beyond in their support for me and all of those deployed around the world. You know who you are...thanks a million!

Thanks, dude. Really appreciate that.

It is GOOD to be home. I was in Iraq for 430 days on the nose. Whew. That was a huge chunk of my life when I really think about it.

Anyway- God bless the USA and Patriots Nation! :)

Oh man! I am sure it probably doesn't even feel real yet to be home! I'm so glad you got home safe and sound!!

Glad you're back, dude!

Sorry it's Kansas, though, LOL. j/k, I've never been there, I'm sure it's a lovely place.... er, if you like, uh... fields of crops? ROFL Actually, though, after living in the desert for a year and a half, Kansas probably looks like frikkin' paradise by comparison, so it probably makes you appreciate it a lot more (especially the wide-open nature, lack of people, lack of buildings... lack of rubble, lack of people trying to kill you, etc.,.).

Let us know if you ever come to the northeast; you'll get a lot of free beers bought for you! :thumb:

Welcome home! Soooo wonderful that you made it back safe and sound. Thank you can't be said enough for all you've done. God Bless you.

Welcome back Kirk

us sweat hogs missed you

Thanks, guys.

I'm already signed up to skate in a men's hockey league in KC, so that's going to be cool!

Welcome home. Thanks not only for your sacrifice but the sacrifice your family made as well..

Before we consider un-stickying this thread, any other deployed PP members (and lurkers willing to come into the light) who might like a little love now and again? Speak up, it ain't much but we're not wearing turbans and burkas thanks to you. No charge (honest! Al Davis ).

thats such great news!!!!

Welcome home, H37!

Thank you again for your service and sacrifice!

Now it's time to make up for lost time! ;). Enjoy!

If you guys want to see what I think is one of the best documentary films on the Iraq War and current events there, grab a copy of JD Johannes's "Outside the Wire '07"

The documentary about Baghdad (starring Captain Brian Ducote) was done on one of my brigade's rifle companies, and I can tell you from personal experience that JD got in exactly where he needed to be and got it exactly right.

This is about as good as it gets in terms of understanding what we are going through over there and is worth the look. I got my copy through Amazon.com, but don't know if it is available anywhere else.

Are you home for good now?

That's a relative term in today's Army, but yes- no plans to go back to Iraq.

I have an instructor position lined up in the Washington D.C. area next, so should be home for a few years at least.

Lord willing.

That is great news H37. Welcome back home and thank you for your service.

Box, I don't know if we have anyone else active or not. The only other I can recall is a user by the name of Buckwild, but a very infrequent visitor.

I had two friends in the reserves who got called into active duty, and then when they were over there they got double-shifted (they were supposed to come home but their replacement unit was sent elsewhere or something). IIRC they ended up staying for between 1 year and 2. Weirdly, they were married at the time, and there was no rule against that so they were both in the same unit at least, although they said they barely saw each other...
