In Celebration Of Tom Brady, Bill Belichick & The New England Patriots

There'll come a time eventually when we won't have these two guys anymore. it's amazing how long they've been here and how good they both really have been. When it's all a memory, this is kind of image I'll always have of those years.

Tom leaning down to respectfully listen to his head coaches instructions on the sideline. That's the relationship they have, as much as a superstar Tom is, he has always shown BB the upmost respect. They're not all cozy pals away from football, I think Bill has maybe purposely preferred to keep distance so they can have this utterly professional relationship. And what a relationship it's been......

The team will be totally different when they leave. It wont be the same at all.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Bill Belichick reflected Wednesday on the 16th anniversary of being hired by the New England Patriots, while also relaying his excitement for his 17th season leading the franchise, which will maintain his standing as the league's longest-tenured head coach.

"That was one of the best days of my life," Belichick said in his season-ending appearance on sports radio WEEI. "I look back on that with great pride and a lot of positive reflections. The opportunity that [Patriots owner] Robert [Kraft] gave me to coach this team is one I respect and treasure and take very seriously."

Since the Patriots tabbed Belichick, there have been 160 head coaches hired by other teams around the NFL.

"I guess that means I've been doing it a long time, and getting older," Belichick said on WEEI. "I appreciate the opportunity here -- the support, the stability of ownership, the stability of the other areas in our organization as well. That's allowed us to take advantage of the consistency and stability we have, as our players are basically in the same system every year and they can build on their training and we can bring players in here and we know what the system is, and we know what they're going to be asked to do and hopefully find guys that can fit better than if you're switching it around all the time. Hopefully, some of those long-term benefits will continue to pay off for us in the future."

The organizational continuity described by Belichick has contributed to a coaching record paralleled by few in NFL history. Belichick has led the Patriots to four Super Bowl championships, tying Chuck Noll for the most Super Bowl wins as a head coach, and six Super Bowl appearances. The Patriots are 187-69 in the regular season under Belichick and 22-9 in the playoffs. They have qualified for the playoffs in every season of Belichick's tenure except for 2000, 2002 and 2008.

Belichick added, "I've certainly made my share of mistakes, and I'm sure I'll make more going forward. But I always try to do what's in the best interest of the team, and hopefully we can continue to improve and be competitive every year."

As part of that process, Belichick traveled this week to Mobile, Alabama, to watch Senior Bowl practices, from which he did the interview.

"Best wishes to all the fans in the offseason, and I look forward to next year and continuing to find a way to make our team better and more competitive, and a team that everybody in this region can be proud of," he said.

Belichick also confirmed that the team and offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo have parted ways.

"Dave's contract was up, and we talked after the game. We're going to go in different directions on that one," Belichick said. "I have a lot of respect for Dave. We had a lot of success offensively last year and this year, and appreciate all his efforts and all that he did for us, and wish him well in whatever his future brings. There will be some type of a transition at that position."

Glad to see this thread bumped up. Awesome hand written note from Tom. I get the sense that no one at 1 Patriot Place is licking their wounds. They are ready to saddle up again and go after ring 5 in 2016!

I remember Maurice Hurst used to struggle greatly making tackles in run support, then it seemed one season, under Parcells, it clicked. Totally different player coming up and getting his shoulder into guys... making tackles.

Coaching matters...

One of my favorite things about Butler is how well and how willingly he tackles.
Great point. He sees a guy in front of him, and with zero hesitation, he just gets at it. Tackling for him (and tackling correctly) is pure reflex.

Bam.

Cheers

This thread is as good a place as any to mention that -- while I hate what the NFL has become under the phony leadership of Roger -- I celebrate the fact that the Patriots represent one of the great stories in the history of the sport and I very much look forward to them driving the haters insane (again) in 2016.

We'll figure out a way to have a productive draft to minimize the damage of DFgate and will contend strongly, as always, despite challenges from the power suits like Jerry Jones to make us go away quietly.

The power brokers can change the rules or selectively enforce them in a corrupt attempt to force us to the back of the pack, the other AFC East teams can bring in fresh stud free-agents and new coaching staffs and the four-letter network can chum the waters all they want, but they can't figure out a way to prevent us from pissing lightning and crapping thunder every fvcking year.

They can't stop us no matter what they try.

God bless Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Bob Kraft and the amazing culture of excellence that is the Patriots organization that they have all had a major role in creating over the last 16 years or so.

Yes, I hate this league but it just makes love my team even more.

Exactly how I feel...exactly. There's something beyond awesome about how BB's GAF meter never gets pegged no matter what the league does. He's a badass's badass.

That's a great way to put it. :thumb:

He's just one guy, but all the backroom scheming, power and money of the Park Ave. Stuffed Shirt Society cannot make him knuckle under.

I just wish that once in my life I could have worked for somebody like Belichick. I think he drives Roger insane.

Even Brady doesn't like NYC cabbies.

This is a wonderful article that explains why BB was influenced to choose the slot WR as the primary focus of his offensive philosophy and how that morphed into also using RBs as slot receivers. It also goes into great detail about BB's cap philosophy. Proof that once again, BB is superior to any coach that ever was before him.

This needs a bump as the ring ceremony video is awesome and gives you goose bumps watching the players see the rings for the first time.

And Jules getting choked up talking about the ring....love it.
