Patriots Sign Tight End Matt Lengel Off Bengals’ Practice Squad

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots grabbed tight end depth off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad Wednesday. The Patriots signed tight end Matt Lengel from the Bengals’ practice squad Wednesday morning, a source told NESN.com. Lengel participated in Wednesday’s Patriots practice.

Because the Patriots signed Lengel off the Bengals’ practice squad, he must occupy a spot on the Patriots’ roster for three weeks. The Patriots had an open spot on their roster after trading Jamie Collins.

Lengel, who’s 6-foot-7, 266 pounds, went undrafted out of Eastern Kentucky in 2015. He also spent the 2015 season on the Bengals’ practice squad. The Patriots have Lengel, Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett at tight end on their 53-man roster. They signed tight end Austin Traylor to their practice squad Tuesday. Lengel doesn’t have any NFL experience. He caught 16 passes for 139 yards in 2014 at Eastern Kentucky. He began his college career at Northeastern.

I posted this news in the wrong place (duh), in the Gronk injured thread. Obviously this is the place to reveal that Belichick has been hiding Kennard Backman on the practice squad. Life is good!
