I'm hoping this is not true, but TMZ says he was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest. No brain activity and he was taken off life support.

I was just reading the same thing. This sucks so bad. He was one of my favorites. I tried like hell to go see him at Red Rocks in Colorado on this last tour but scalpers scooped up all of the tickets before I could get them.

I was always a casual fan of his. I saw him with Bob Dylan the opening season of Great Woods (Tweeter Center, Comcast, wtf is it now) in Mansfield. The grass had not even grown yet on the hill. I owned two albums - Southern Accents, and Packing up the Plantation - Live (both in the 80s).

Pretty amazing career though, spanning a very long time with hits in multiple decades.

Correction: LAPD has retracted statement that #TomPetty has died. Apologized for error. He did go into cardiac arrest but clings to life.
