Dan Orlovsky and Kurt Warner both seem to love Mac as well. I've noticed that among former players, DBs and QBs seem to like him significantly more than others. This seems like a good sign to me.
You know what, though? This QB draft class seems pretty strong. How would the Collective Brains Of The Planet rank and judge this year's rookies?
The Big Five? The mid-rounders, Trask, Mills, and Mond? Book/Ehlinger? Any UDFAs that may surprise?
Personally, I've been impressed with what I've seen across the board. I mean, Book sucks, but I knew that when he was at ND.
Lawrence - If he survives that OL with his mojo intact, as his reads speed up he has potential to be pretty strong. Pretty high floor...unless someone breaks him.
Wilson - Potentially the best of the rest. He needs good coaching, and it remains to be seen whether he has the work ethic and brains to manage the defensive coordinators and defensive-minded HCs in the NFL - and especially in the AFC East - will throw at him. I wasn't a fan of his leading up to the draft, but I've been pretty impressed. Can he survive the Jets organization?
Lance - I don't see it. I see him taking awhile to come up to speed and be useful with his arm. He'll make some big plays with his feet and throws that other people can't make, but I'd be pretty shocked if he built up any consistency. I think he will torture teams once around the league, a la RG3, before people adjust and he sinks or swims. I'm betting on sink.
Fields - I...don't...know. Honestly, the best thing for Fields would be if he got some sort of injury that didn't prevent him from playing, but prevented him from being able to run effectively. Maybe a shock collar? Force this kid to speed his reads and rely on his head instead of taking off running at the first confusing read or collapsing pocket, and he really could be something. I used to love watching Brett Farve when he was young, but I never believed in him. Gunslinging QBs are a dark attraction, but I know they're not good for me.
No real opinion as to the rest of the draftees...
