Looking at the Patriots - 2015

Nate Ebner spotted at today's walk through with a cast on his right arm.

DB.

Rutgers.

Nothing to see here.

It is what it is.

Move along.

While that wouldn't surprise me, what we need is a WR who can stay on the field. We must have the most injury prone group of receivers in the league.

I like how this turns out.

The Serby Crystal Ball reveals all about The Road to Super Bowl 50, beginning Saturday:
Wild Card round

AFC
Chiefs at Texans: Andy Reid and Alex Smith have forgotten how to lose, and sackmaster Justin Houston is expected back to terrorize Brian Hoyer, whose best chance for a big play is DeAndre Hopkins, matched up against rookie Marcus Peters and rangy Sean Smith. Alex Smith will need to get the ball out quickly to neutralize J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus, and hope that Jeremy Maclin (hip) can take pressure off tight end Travis Kelce.
Chiefs 23, Texans 13
Steelers at Bengals: The problem for the Bengals is twofold: The quarterback matchup of Ben Roethlisberger (10-5 in the playoffs, two rings) versus AJ McCarron and the 0-6 playoff monkey on Marvin Lewis’ back (four straight first-round exits with Andy Dalton). Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley might be forced to rely on running backs Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman with DeAngelo Williams (foot) iffy, but Big Ben has challenged wide receiver Martavis Bryant to toughen up and step up to take heat off Antonio Brown who has been held in check by the Bengals (13 catches, 134 yards combined in two games), even with Pacman Jones sidelined in the last meeting. Big Ben loves The Jungle habitat.

Seahawks at Vikings: Battle-hardened Super Bowl regulars versus babes in the woods. Adrian Peterson will get more than eight carries for 18 yards this time, and the Purple People Eaters are healthier on defense than they were in their 38-7 Week 13 defeat, but the way Russell Wilson is playing, Teddy Bridgewater isn’t equipped to play catch-up against this defense and Marshawn Lynch is all about the action again, boss.
Seahawks 28, Vikings 17
Packers at Redskins: Aaron Rodgers has been betrayed by a porous offensive line, enigmatic running back Eddie Lacy and boy, has he missed Jordy Nelson. But this is The Second Season, where the Pack have the edge in playoff experience, against a team that has yet to beat a team with a winning record. And if Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga can keep Ryan Kerrigan honest, expect A-Rod to outplay Kirk Cousins.
Packers 31, Redskins 24
Divisional round

AFC
Chiefs at Patriots: The Chiefs routed the Pats, 41-14, on national television early in the 2014 season. Tom Brady might remember it. Bill Belichick might remember being asked if he might consider starting Jimmy Garoppolo.
Jamaal Charles scored three touchdowns that night. He won’t be playing this time. The rampaging Chiefs will expect to win anyway. And they will be one tough out.
But the first-round bye means Brady, much to Ron Gronkowski’s delight, will be throwing again to a healthy Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. The fourth quarter belongs to Brady and Stephen Gostkowski.
Patriots 28, Chiefs 21

<figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Will Peyton Manning experience another playoff flop?Photo: AP</figcaption></figure> Steelers at Broncos: Mile High drama with Peyton Manning possibly back in the saddle, for better or for worse. Neither he nor Brock Osweiler is equipped for a shootout with Big Ben. But Wade Phillips will make the necessary adjustments after Brown torched his No Fly Zone for 16 receptions for 189 yards and 2 TDs in a 34-27 win last month at Heinz Field. Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. (shoulder) expects to play and safety Darian Stewart (hamstring) will be needed.
Manning’s foot will have gotten additional rehab and rest. His timing will be sharpened in practice. The team and the orange-clad town will rally around him. The Hollywood script doesn’t call for his 10th playoff one-and-done. No HGH — Hero Goes Home.
Broncos 27, Steelers 24
NFC
Seahawks at Panthers: If Beast Mode is healthy, his battle with Luke Kuechly will be akin to Jim Brown vs. Sam Huff. Hostilities between Josh Norman and Doug Baldwin is a good bet. Cam Newton dabbing in the end zone and Richard Sherman objecting is another good bet.

<figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Panthers QB Cam NewtonPhoto: AP</figcaption></figure> The Panthers will be playing their beloved respect card. The Seahawks will be playing their redemption card, especially at the Carolina 1-yard line. It’s a dream quarterback showdown between Newton and Wilson. Last one with the ball wins. Graham Gano field goal as time expires.
Panthers 26, Seahawks 24
Packers at Cardinals: You can rest assured Bruce Arians read the riot act after the Cardinals’ ghastly Week 17 no-show against the Seahawks. The same pass rush that sacked Rodgers eight times and returned two of his fumbles for touchdowns in a 38-8 obliteration on Dec. 27 will again rattle Rodgers, who will be rendered a one-dimensional quarterback. Patrick Peterson will keep Randall Cobb under control.
Dom Capers’ defense is hardly head cheese, but good luck defending Carson Palmer and emerging rookie running back David Johnson. Arians will play to win. Packers play-caller/head coach Mike McCarthy, much too conservative in last year’s NFC Championship game against the Seahawks, may not.
Cardinals 30, Packers 17
AFC Championship Game

Patriots at Broncos: At press time, I was still researching whether Manning has ever played Brady during their storied Hall of Fame careers. Be that as it may, Manning looks more 39 than Brady looks 38. Mile High drama again as Manning plays what could be his last game, at least in Denver.
Oh, how he’d love to keep Belichick, his early tormentor, from another Super Bowl. Belichick will have his defense sick and tired of hearing what a great defense is on the other side. Chandler Jones will be sick and tired of hearing about the pass-rushing greatness of Von Miller. Brady is the better quarterback. HGH – – Hero Goes Home. Deflated again.
Patriots 27, Broncos 20

<figcaption class="wp-caption-text">Larry Fitzgerald and the high-powered Cardinals are Super Bowl material.Photo: AP</figcaption></figure> NFC Championship Game

Cardinals at Panthers: Norman, upset that Arians suggested Todd Bowles be Coach of the Year rather than Ron Rivera, waves a black bat – the belfry kind – at him during pregame warmups. Nothing, of course, scares Arians. And this is a revenge game for the Cardinals, who lost the wild-card game last year at Bank of America Stadium with Ryan Lindley at quarterback.
David Johnson, meet Luke Kuechly. Luke Kuechly, meet David Johnson. And while that’s happening, Palmer spreads the ball around to Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and Michael Floyd. Getting shredded by Wilson in the regular-season finale helps Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher prepare for Newton. When it’s over, Palmer and Fitzgerald are dabbing — they’re finally going to a Super Bowl.
Cardinals 30, Panthers 24
Super Bowl 50

Cardinals-Patriots (in Santa Clara, Calif.): Star Wars: Brady, Gronk and Edelman on one side, Palmer, Brown, Floyd, Fitzgerald and Johnson on the other side. Brady has endured too much to fail now. Arians decides to throw from the Patriots’ 1-yard line instead of handing off to Johnson. Malcolm Butler intercepts. One for the thumb. One more Lombardi Trophy Roger Goodell is forced to hand to Brady.
Patriots 29, Cardinals 22
