Merged - The Artist known as Prince is dead

It's being confirmed by multiple sources.

Wow, it's been one hell of a year for musician deaths.

Holy Sh!t, Prince Dead at 57

Prince, the multi-talented musical genius who emerged from Minneapolis to become a controversial chart-topping singer/songwriter and movie star, died Thursday, according to TMZ.com.

The 57-year-old Prince was hospitalized last week with the flu, sparking rumors about his health. But the iconic musician appeared at a Paisley Park dance party last Saturday to quiet the speculation.

“Wait a few days before you waste any prayers,” Prince told the fans at his Minnesapolis estate.

The diminutive musical dynamo was born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958, the son of a pianist in a Minnesota jazz band. He was playing piano by age seven, guitar at 13, and the drums one year later.

The precocious Purple One was signed to Warner Brothers Records while still a teen, releasing his debut album “For You” in 1978.

Prince played all the instruments, as well as writing all the music and lyrics — and produced the record himself.

The sexual themes of his lyrics — incest on “Sister,” for example or “I Wanna Be You Love” — turned the libidinous Prince into a polarizing figure.

I think we should revisit one of Dave Chappelle's & Charlie Murphy's greatest skits.

First Chyna, then Prince.

Since things happen in threes, let all one-name entertainers be on notice.

Cher? Flea? Shakira?

In all seriousness, Prince was a very talented guy who I liked, but he was about a bit too iconoclastic for his own good. When he wasn't trying to be mysterious he was a cool guy, but he seldom broke the image down.

I hope it wasn't drugs. I'd feel a little better somehow if it was just a freak illness that was mis-diagnosed as a "bad flu", but I realize that is a classic excuse for an overdose/withdrawal.

It's not just musicians either... 2016 is really off to a flyer with celebrity deaths :(

Chyna was my girl, my 9th wonder, now prince.... and Flea after the National Anthem deserves to be on that list

This is my favorite Prince song/video. Some may need a cold shower after it's over. :yay2:

I cannot even begin to comprehend how two incredibly genius musicians like Bowie and Prince could die at young ages and the Kardashians are all still here.

Damn, sounds like he knew his time was up. He was one helluva musician and even though I prefer the harder stuff, I liked a number of his songs.

RIP Prince.

Just read this morning that his plane made an emergency landing due to his flu worsening during his concert tour.

What a shame. He was a huge talent :frown: :sulk:

My goodness. What kind of flu did he have that it killed him?

It feels like the 80's are slowing dying. I may have a break down when Madonna kicks it.

You can die from the flu, about 20-30k people a year die from it. He was older than I thought, so he was not that young. Flu generally kills older people, but I have seen it kill people in their 30's. Sometimes with real high fever you can just start shutting down.
