Pats Tender Mankins and others

Nobody is panicing, I just said we need a wideout basically due to not having much of anything at that position and that is what this thread was about. Start a thread about pass rush and I can tell you about that.
 Yeah. Those theories of yours are really something to behold. :jerkit:

no it is tendered to maintain the rights of the player...there are different levels of tenders

think cirtis martin, he Pats tendered him with the intent to match any offer, Tuna screwed them with a poison pill part of the deal that made it impossible for the Pats to match it....since Martin was tendered at the highest level the Pats got the Jets 1st and 3rd round picks

Are teams still allowed to stick poison pills into contract offers of those RFA's who have been tendered? If so, that could be very bad news with the CBA in the status its in.

Man, I wouldn't put too much into these tenders. Since 1995 we've lost three players who were RFA. Curtis Martin, Kevin Turner and Michael Timpson.

I don't get why people up thread were bumming that the Pats did this to Mankins. He had to know it was coming.

Every time the Pats use leverage, people get upset. We NEED them to use leverage at times.

Yeah not sure either, 31 other teams do this all over the place, yet only the pats are cheap bastards when they do it.

The word tender makes me think of chicken tenders...I'm hungry..

The Pats have tendered 50 players in the last 15 years. Of those only three signed and left.

Yeah I think I said this early on, not those numbers, just the fact that its nothing horrible to put a tender on a guy so you can sign him later.

Dear Mr. Kraft:

You are a big market team. A real big one. You have a shit-ton of cash, and for the first time ever, no handcuffs by the salary cap. Now, I'm not saying you need to go out and Daniel Snyder the situation. But it's not 2001, either. Good players can be signed. You have a smart coach who can tell you who is good. This is where you come into play. He tells you who is good, you pay them. See how that works? Let's keep it simple and start with players on your squad right now. Mankins, Grimmace, Gostkowski, Banta-Cain, Faulk, Bodden...please put their names on the "Pay to the Order of" line of your check. Let them fill in the number after the "$". Then, take some more of them there checks, and give them to free agents. Then, let's meet for drinks in Dallas, say next February. See how that works?

Regards,

MD

Dear MD,

Thank you so much for your note on how we should acquire players through free agency. We really appreciate your advice since your expertise is legendary. It is rare that we hear from a 3 time Super Bowl winner. Oh wait...I've won 3 Super Bowls not you, now I remember.
But you are correct in saying that I have a ton of cash and the reason I have a ton of cash is because I don't listen to guys like you. In fact, I generally do the opposite of what guys like you think.
You see, unlike you, I see the players on my team as tools. I have no emotional attachment to them and I understand that these tools are interchangeable and at some point expendable. When a tool gets older you replace it, so you have to be careful what you pay for a tool especially when you buy it used. In fact, the worst thing you can do as a businessman is to pay too much for a tool.
When a tool from our team becomes available to other teams we use every bit of leverage that we can because, as much as they protest in public, the tool knows in the end that it's just a business transaction.
So again thanks for your advice and thanks also for your invitation to meet in Dallas but as I mentioned earlier I've got a ton of cash and I don't sit in the cheap seats.

Regards,

Bob Kraft

Dang, that was snarky, RI.
Besides Kraft does have emotional attachments to players. He just leaves personnel up to BB & co.

Then the likelyhood of losing Ghost is very high. That is not good news.

Not really - how many poison pill contracts have you seen in the NFL in the past 10 years? Hasn't been many.

I mean, it could happen - surely. Just don't see it very often - I don't recall anything happening like that since the whole Seattle/Minnesota drama in 05 or 06.

Yeah, thats when I thought/hoped things had changed with them.

Ghost is only tied to a second round tender. He can get a contract for good money from the Blue Toilet Seats with a poison pill in it. The Pats cant match, so he walks for the price of what would almost amount to a third round pick.

Seattle took it to arbitration and lost back then. Then they went and stuck a poison pill into their offer for Nate Burleson. Hasn't really happened since, at least not that I remember.

And yes, the Colts could steal Ghost for a second rounder, very easily so.

No one in their right mind would give a 2nd round pick for Ghost. If anyone wants to give me a 2nd rounder for him, I'd do it in a heartbeat and draft Leigh Tiffin in the 6th round to replace him.
