Strictly a laundry rooter. I've had guys I enjoyed watching and others I rooted for (usually because they were underdogs or scorn by the fanbase) but NE could cut Brady tomorrow and it wouldn't faze me.
I imagine it would for the fact that the team might have become worse. I think people grow to become fans of players on the team because they root for them on the team. There are players that have left, I still really like, others not so much. If the pats cut welker tomorrow, I imagine a few people would be upset.
Welker is the exception. He is the one feather in my cap, I said NE should trade a 3rd or a 2nd for him early in the 2006 season.
