So there's a game on I guess

Watched the replay on twitter a few times, I'd be amazed if it doesn't end up as a torn left Achilles

- Has Dwayne Allen been cut yet? I don't even recall seeing him on the field.
- Claiborne was a beast. Hope we can get the same type of pass rush during the season
- Flores seems to take a more aggressive approach that Patricia.
- J. McCourty did not do himself any favors
- Crossen got schooled. But interesting that the coaches left him in for the whole game.
- Webb's HOF bust is on hold
- Damn is Patterson fast. That WR screen may do some damage this season
- The new helmet rule is an abomination.

Couple things:

* As good as James White has been the last two years, he looks even BETTER. Quicker, faster and stronger. The screen for a TD he just found daylight and disappeared.

* I couldn't make out what Brady was screaming at the offense, but it highlighted why he is the GOAT and not just one of the boys. He went OFF.

* Preseason superstars are a dime a dozen, but Bentley looks like the real deal. No question about it. He would appear to be our best LB and I mean now. How is this guy supposed to be slow? Does he play slow to anybody?

* Patterson. I want to believe my lyin' eyes which are telling me that he's going to catch a lot more than 30 passes this season. Looks like Chevs was right and I was wrong about him. Please let it be real.

* The pass rush was obviously way better and a lot of guys contributed to that, but Derek Rivers is the guy that I noticed the most. He's got no size, but is unusually strong and has advanced hand usage. He closes the deal fast, too. We've got something in him.

* If there is any truth that a unit takes on something of their coach's personality then it appears possible that Brian Flores is the right guy to turn the intensity of our D up a few notches. By comparison, Matty P usually looked like a guy trying to remember what his wife told him she needed at Stop and Shop.

* He didn't play against anybody, but once again I was impressed by Matt Tobin who played LT in the second half and showed fine movement skills and decent power. He looks a lot better than I expected, but I don't know if there is room for him. Maybe he'll make it as our swing guy, but I'd feel better about his chances if he could handle the backup center job. I'll be watching for somebody besides James Ferentz to step in over the next two games because I don't know if he can add value at another slot. I'm seeing a numbers crunch on the OL, which is a nice problem to have.

* I hate getting fired up this early, but, barring serious injuries changing the mix I'm not seeing any drop-off in this team whatsoever. The opposite, if anything.

What are you looking for in tonight's game?

1. I'm watching the DL to see if there's been an improvement. The Eagles toasted our DL in the SB and I want to see if Shelton, Adrian Clayborn, Rivers, Hightower can make a difference. Bentley played well last week; can he continue to?

2. I want to see Brady's rapport with the receivers. As well as Dorsett and Patterson have done in practice I'm hearing neither is in his circle of trust yet. Decker is of particular interest. Mike thinks TB plays almost all of the first half.

3. Trent Brown. I want to see him dominate.

4. Ralph Webb has a big opportunity again to perform well.

Those are the players I want to focus on even though I'm not expecting the Pats to win - the Eagles sound really amped up and have something to prove even tho it's just pre season.

1. CHECK!
Whether it's Flores' more aggressive style or the new players or a combination, this D looked much better. Bentley is beasting.

2. Check.
Decker whiffed badly on one pass. Still not a big fan of Decker.
Brady used to say he couldn't out throw Randy Moss; Patterson is another guy like that. Patterson blew past his defender & Hoyer under threw the ball by 5 yds on what would have been a beautiful TD play. Brady did hit Patterson on a bubble screen & Patterson juked the CB & took it home. Moar plz.

3. CHECK! Trent Brown dominated. It was good to see Brady giving Brown props on the field.

4. Asleep at half time so I have to give Webb another look. White otoh has emerged.

Overall, the Patriots were far better this week than last week imo. I'm feeling better about this team.

I should have added that Jacob Hollister is working hard and it's showing on the field in production. His blocking has improved a lot. He's obviously gained a lot of trust from TB, BB and McDaniels.

Also, Crossen was given a chance to get burned in quickly to the NFL last night. Let's hope he learns from it.

I think it was more like 15 yards, but I'll award you style points for being polite about it.

Hoyer's arm has looked awful. He never had a gun, but so far through 6 quarters of action he's underthrown people consistently and his mental recognition isn't top-notch, either. That was clearly illustrated on a short pattern to the sticks by either Hogan or Hollister where the guy broke open and Hoyer was a beat late seeing it and didn't have the velocity to make up the difference.

Right now, the MVP for this team could be Alex Guerrero.

Can We Be Excited About 2018 Patriots Now?

The Patriots’ preseason win over the Eagles was a different viewing experience for me as I got tied up down the cape on a beautiful and perfect day and had to listen to the first half in the car on the way home. I actually kind of enjoyed it. Obviously, Dan Roche and Matt Chatham know their stuff and are fun to listen to but it was also a bit of a throwback to the old days when catching a Patriots game didn’t always trump everything else. You’d tune into Gino and Gil as you ran your Sunday errands and the Pats *most likely* got toasted.

Yes, I’m excited the defense was so disruptive, but let’s also remember that this was a far cry from that fearless gameplan offense we saw from the Eagles the last time these two teams met in Minnesota. The good news is that we can still feel good, and you can bet your five Super Bowl rings that Eagles fans definitely feel pretty miserable about being 0-2 in the preseason.
It feels like it will be hard for even the most negative Patriots fans to piss and moan about this one, which could possibly mean that the local narrative will become one that is excited about this Patriots team, instead of gleefully awaiting an internal soap opera to destroy the entire franchise from within. But I’m sure [sports radio] will do their best to keep fans angry and calling in about their trash takes.
Here are my rapid-fire notes on a preseason game that felt like it announced the 2018 Patriots’ presence.

Defense still suspect in passing game at times but front got some nice pressures and the O looks strong. Patterson is legit.

No he does not look slow and preseason superstars are a dime a dozen but this kid has my attention.

I was the one saying Bentley was slow. He never looked this good at Purdue. Always was a thumper against the run, but he could be exploited in the pass game.

I'm pleasantly surprised by what I'm seeing so far. Definitely didn't expect it! If he keeps it up in the regular season, I'll enjoy a nice crow dinner.

Wait, eagles fans are "miserable" over a preseason record?

Was that supposed to be serious?

I think a lot of folks assumed that Hightower would end up back in the middle by default because we really didn't have a viable MLB, but I watch this kid calling the plays on D and finding the right place to blow plays up and it actually appears like he is a leader out there. He LOOKS like an instant starter and allows Hightower to play SAM and Van Noy to play weak side, which helps the overall chemistry.

However, I want to see what happens when people game plan for Bentley and try to expose him in coverage. That hasn't happened yet, so we should all try to temper the enthusiasm a little.

Nah, why should we? DROY.

Lol!

You’re one of the best with the sarcastic snipe.

Any thoughts on Goddert from the Eagles.

Was hoping for him over Michel in the draft. Figured with Gronks tempestuous status and the lack of depth at TE it’d be a more prominent position for replacement than RB.

Yeah. He looks exactly like Zach Ertz. I don't think he appears overrated or will need years of grooming to be productive.
